I have wondered if there is a place
where thought becomes language
       if there is a place
       where words have become obsolete
a place where feelings and expressions
become the words that cannot be spoken

for what are words
but sequences of letters that cannot even begin to convey
(no matter how hard we try)
the touch of a hand, the roll of a tear
are there words to express these
              that are not already overused?
words that we know, but always search for
when we have to express the feelings of our hearts

can these words even begin to convey my soul to you?
can they tell you what's really in it?
or, are they vessels trying to carry a message
a message that my soul wants to share
a message that must be felt rather than heard
a message that must be seen rather than known
are these the things that I want you to understand?
or, do I want you to understand
                                        yourself?

To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world.

Wonderful Oh GR8 Voice of the Northland!
There is such a place, or two.  One is when Ms. Right is in your arms.  I'll let you figure out the other

Well Sven I do know that words make up language and language makes up thoughts but all are just virtual reality when written. Nothing is ever the same as the real thing. I think we all know that.
But those feelings you are talking about go way beyond the scope of mere words. It's true those feelings are for the most part unexplainable. But somehow the heart is in tune with where it's at and the hardest person to help understand that is always oneself.....
Hope you make out alright with this!
Have a nice day!
Eric

Sven

Interesting thoughts in this.  I think there is a place, past this curtain of life we know...where communication is just knowing...without words.

Hm, I think there may be such a place. But  kind of like this place that uses words, too.

Sven, as Martie suggested, there is a place, where audible words are not needed...rather thoughts and feelings....'just are'.  Trust me on this one..I know.

Sven, I must echo some of the other reader's sentiments.

The "place where thought becomes language" is in the arms of a lover.

So what are you waiting for?  Go to her...go man go!

Deep, Sven. Makes me think of an astral journey type of expression.

"are there words to express these
that are not already overused"

What a great question.  I think Webster's is up for some new verbage.

This was a thought-provoking read, Sven.
Thanks!

I love words. They can convey, hide, punish, comfort...so many things they can do. But it's true, they often don't do justice to the the thoughts one has inside. Some people lack the vocabulary, some lack the courage, some lack the thoughts themselves...does that make any sense?
I enjoyed the poem, it made me think about thoughts and words, when all I really wanted to do is swat a mosquito that's pestering me as I read and type!

I like this very much, Sven... particularly these lines. *S* Finding words when it doesn't matter is easy... but words fail us when the heart is full enough, leaving us hoping for understanding. *S* Well written!

Very well said Sven! How do you find the right words? I wrote about that too, and concluded that heart-sighs are just too hard to decipher, but if we understood ourselves better, could we put words to those un-expressable feelings? I wonder too! Well done my friend!

And this ...  my friend...

Is the mark of a true poet...when words are
felt rather than heard....

And you convey the feelings well...

(smiles) Oh Sven, I'm very sure there is a place where only the emotions and subconscious exist and only where images and colors co-exist! (sigh) i believe our heart reveals the key to such this dimension, sweet friend, this is excellent, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sven, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

thank you all so much my friends. . .

I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on this. . . and I agree with all of them. . .

there is a place. . . this place that resides in every one of us. . . for some, it is a lover, for others, themselves. . . but, no matter where it is, it is there. . .and we will find it. . . and we will be heard. . . the unity of word and thought will be ours. . . for eternity. . .

thank you all!!
