notes from
the ministry of love
II

They took the one next door today.
No screaming and kicking this time,
he just left.  Which is to say,
he was dead.

Of course, I knew before;
we had been talking through the wall,
and he would say how good he looked,
what with eating bugs and filth
and crawling on the floor.

I said he was doing fine,
though I could not see him,
which really was for the best,
and told him to confess.  He said he had,
so I told him plainly
that it was not enough to tell,
that he must betray.

So he died.
Which I can understand.  He was in love.

And now you say I do not listen.
I tell you honestly, I hear every word you say.
Papillon flew away, it's true,
lied to the dying thing next door,
just like me,
and took the only way out.

But he didn't have you.
How you want me to hear.
And hearing, would I heal.
And healing, would I sing.
Oh, yes.

I have confessed, too.
Ate bugs and filth.
Crawled on the floor.
Been betrayed also.
And loved.

Here is a confession that may interest you:
it's not what you do right,
it's what you do wrong.
That's what they want, you know:
To see how old you know you are.
To hear you claim all your venial sins.
To watch you crawl and whine and cough
and like a dog sniff out the least filthy spot.
And through it all
listen to you beg to live.

Oh, happy day
when I leave this nearly perfect world
a perfect place.
If not for you, I would be perfectly flawed.
I will listen and you will talk
and I will know you and love and beauty
and all this.
And never betray.

No, no.

And soon,
I will be pounding on the wall,
begging someone unseen
to tell me how good it is.

Wow...This leave me speechless and breathless...

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...

Disturbing and interesting...trying to see through your words to the understanding place.  Still I read for that reason, perhaps. Thanks.

If the collumns of a temple are too close, you cannot walk between them. Enjoyed

Martie -- I always appreciate your taking time to read and comment.  Whatever the reason you read, thank you.

Seymour -- claustrophobic here.  Glad you enjoyed.
