This is reposted in respect to the recent rhyme/no rhyme "discussions" (haha) going on lately. It's one of the few rhyming poems i've written that i still appreciate. It was written in response to a "challenge" in the English Workshop a couple years ago.

I Am
©2000-2002 C.G. Ward

I am challenge.
The prey, the game.
Chased, released.
Depressed, relieved.

I am sigh.
The cross, the nail.
Plied, untried.
Given, denied.

I am dream.
The wish, the fear.
Wonder, known.
Blinded, shown.

I am wind.
The far, the near.
Implored, ignored.
Followed, suborned.

I am earth.
The strength, the weak.
Pushed, pulled.
Confirmed, annulled.

I am sky.
The wind, the sails.
Mooring, pouring.
Flightless, soaring.

I am fire.
The cool, the burn.
Softness, hardness.
Loving, heartless.

I am loneliness
The crowd, the proud.
Soul’s perdition,
The contradiction.

I am paradox.

C---Your rhyme is only partial and so much appreciated.  I wander there myself sometimes.  And feel so cheap, afterwards.

I like your rhyming style Chris. Lmbo at Duncan. Forgive me, I am generally one of those rhyming types, I can’t help it. on those occasions when poetry comes to me, it just comes in rhyme, and I actually find it difficult to write in free verse, though I like the style very much. Challenge well met (for a blond!! )

Well I am so proud of you...its never easy coming out   ROFL ...

I always knew you were a closet rhymer

You are rhyme denied...meter untried
Your a poet ... and we all know it.

and? I am so glad you finally see it my way...

YOU?

smiling...

you are the twisting of the word
a metered sigh of rhyme unheard.
You are the blank that waits for fill--
the center of a storm--you're still...

A steely grip in velvet glove--
the asp that bites
then writes? of love...
A paradox you seem to be,
but no, methinks, you're poetry!

Okay..soooo it happens to even the best of us..

Actually..I like the way you integrated thought with personification.. I do that alot..as in what I feel or see is what I am..which can be really..sh***y sometimes~wink* But this is nice.. I could feel you squirm though.. like it burned going down..hehe

Sincerely,
Reg

Very cool poem, Christopher. Tight and losing nothing in its succinctness.
