Just Because

they believed in freedom,
just because
they wanted a better world;
they went to war for our liberty;
and our homeland.

These were our fathers
our brothers, our uncles,
our sons, our lovers.

These were our brave Heros.

Mothers knelt and prayed
for their son's safe return home
as they watched the men in uniform
approach the front door...

"Mrs. Daigle, we are sorry to inform you ---"

All she has to show now is the
folded American flag she holds
drenched intears
and a shattered heart.

Just because
they were honorable and dutiful
and answered the call
they wrote their names in bloodshed
on our battlefields.

Just because
of their gallantry, we were liberated.
Just because
they are no longer here, we’ll remember
their courageous dedication;
we'll listen to the stories told by those
fortunate enough to have come back home.

May the peace you all longed and fought for
be with you now in heaven.
Know that we grieve your passing
and we thank you for your deeds of Heroism.

A Salute to our Heros;
for thosewho faught and came back home,
and for all who died for the cause;
just because.

A beautiful memorial tribute, Maggie...
I have been so self absorbed lately that I was wondering why everyone had their flags out this weekend...
thanks for sharing this lovely piece and for reminding me of why those flags are out.

Oh Maggie that was fabulous, what a tribute to the heros that kept and still keep your land free.  Happy Memorial Day to you and to everyone, as ours is over up here.   God bless them one and all, and keep those serving you now safe.
