My Two Brothers

Ed Volongo is a business alias
my brother, Chris, uses.
Chris isn’t his legal name, either.
He was born William Christopher.
As a kid, we called him Billy,
but by the time he was a teen,
being “Bill Bailey” wasn’t cool.

At nineteen,
he decided college wasn’t for him;
moved to L.A. to be a rock star.
When that failed,
he learned the bail bondsman trade.

He’s happy enough,
makes good money
‘cause he also insures expensive cars
for celebs like Nicholas Cage.

He becomes “Ed Volongo”
when sales people call,
or “skips” get arrested again.
He won’t post bail for “skips”.

His small brick building is catercorner
from a local jail, one that houses celebrities.
The wall behind his metal desk
is layered in autographed photos.
He’s especially fond
of signed pictures of presidents.

He’s got an Ed Volongo costume:
Hawaiian shirt, colorful fly-fishing hat,
horrid striped pants
and faded brown Wingtips.

He’s never done anything illegal,
that I know of, anyway,
while pretending to be Ed,
although Ed does get mail.

I tell him he’s gone too far.

He sent me two birthday cards this year:
one from Chris
and one from Ed.

A story only you can tell -- 'cause it's true.

Thanks for the glimpse into your particular family's madness. I don't have enough space t' talk about mine.

Enjoyed.

I love this Corinne. . .it's got that slighty off-kilter view of your world that gives me a surprise when I least expect it. . .

that's a sign of a good writer. . . keep up the good work!!

Corinne!  This is an excellent write, and you brought your brother to life right here in the blue pages...if an Ed ever signs on as a registered member, I'm going to wonder about his REAL name!

I like writing with a personal touch, such as this one. Very nice, I have brothers, so I can relate to this.
