Staring over the pajama-ed feet
of my six-year old self,
I toon my senses
and see reflections of myself,
repeated within
a Saturday morning ritual.

This time,
I'm the scapegoat "predator"
in high speed pursuit
of a feathered, fast food
I'm not allowed to taste.
Hence, I endure
the cruel pangs of hunger's acme,
as my formidable, fowl friend
mocks my existence
from protected grounds;
plays me like a rerun.

Unable to erase these lines
that define our desert world,
I forgo the animated formalities
of acting out someone else's
lopsided script.
I humor my creator by blazing
down a familiar cacti road
that leads to a bridgeless chasm,
for reasons realized
only after I'm robbed
of instinct, reflex and memory...

in rapid
d
  e
   s
   c
   e
   n
   t,
I find myself splitting
the, now obvious, chasm,
with that "here I go again" look
penciled across my face
right up until the moment
when I predictably pancake
against the bottom
of every imprisoning television
in America...

There I am,
beneath a tainted halo
of rising dust,
a fallen coyote
counting Tweetybirds
like I'm supposed to.

C. Kelly

one kiss of his mouth,
one touch of his hand

Greeneyes...Thanks a bunch for the welcome and your comments. I'm still trying to figure how to navigate all the crannies of this fine looking site. I'm sure I'll see ya around.

It's easy to navigate. Just don't walk into any walls painted to look like caves. I did that so many times, I had to take an extended break...

Glad to have you here. Look forward t' more.

You have painted in poetry...my favorite
character of the toons....Many a laughter's
tear has fallen from my face over many many
years of watching the coyote with that
"here we go again" look....

Thanx...and welcome to Passions...  If you
get lost...just yell,  someone will help!

Yikes....Lookit all the fine folks I need to thank!

bsquirrel, nkdthoughts, Marti, Magnus, Poet Devine, TriXter, Sunshine, EternitysHorizon, Enchantress, Marge, Marsha, MistletoeAngel...

nkdthoughts...thanks for noticing my lack for an "s" in descent...It must have got lost in the plummet.

Poetdevine...Rotts is the back half of "Carrots"...my childhood nickname as defined by my affection for said veggie...and no I don't bite (hard).

Sunshine...Thanks again for the ecard welcome. Love the pic of the hyena; it would go great with a poem about the great African Serengeti I have (hopefully it doesn't bite either).

Thanks to all of you....I hope to show my appreciation by returning the favor of having read my work, just as soon as I find the time and know-how to track you all down.

Toodles...

Rotts...
