To the first lady of the house
and the many years spent as spouse
nutured young, weaned one
sent him spanking clean
to first grade then to second
set up fine hopes
with childhood dreams, did cope

a mother for all occasions
withstood the storm
noisy clutter of infant invasions,
pacified, in her arms she soothed
out of the nest, left her brood.

the hearth still burns
observances, the years have gone
tributes pour in, weaned one
checked academic lessons were done
kept us reminded of occasions
coped with adolescent evasions.

we grew
left the family nest
mothers smile,
remembered little pests
to the first lady of the house
checked little heads
not a sign of a louse

we'd squander coins from piggy banks
she'd ponder
if we'd stop and reflect
Mom, you're a honey,
thanks!!

Sweet tribute to your Mom, and actually to we Moms everywhere - thankyou for this. Chris

Martin darling boy I’m speechless, totally awed by the power and beauty of this. There’ll be no fancy phrases, not flowing lines of careful script, just me saying this is utterly utterly perfect. You do know this is fabulous writing don’t you

yes Moms are amazing Shakira, the pain they can hide sometimes and the secret sorrows that they shrug away.

A magical word...Mom...
Have one, been one...
The proudest and most difficult journey of a lifetime. A fitting and eloquent tribute.
