You, I Thank

Every waking moment
You are there
Every moment of slumber
My dreams you pleasantly invade

You are the cloak
Wrapped snuggly ‘round my heart
Shielding it from the world
Or most the cold it brings

You gently whisper
Words of tender comfort
Always holding me
When perhaps the icy wind enters

My gloomy walls
Walls of untrust
You helped to break apart
You became the only protection needed

You showed me more
Opened my eyes
Helped me to see
Not everyone was there to hurt

When in my moments
Of vulnerability and fear
You are there to comfort
And to protect

When I close my eyes at night
Your arms are there
To warm and rock me
To much needed repose

It is you
Who protects my dreams
From forces who wish
Only to cause chaos and fear

You, unselfish and kind
Are my guard and my scholar
My warmth and my love
My noble and my peasant

You, gentle and brave
Are my day and my night
My summer and my winter
My soil and my flower

You, I thank
