Queen of the Nile

She sat quietly waiting for him to return from across the great sea.

So alone on her pavillion, but all the poets of history coined, she was waiting for her lost love, Mark Antony.

She contemplated, this daring Queen of the Nile,
long and hard, for her heart was truly in denial.

Ceasar had come and gone swiftly with his Roman law
and broght all her enemies down.  Until she was the only one left to wear the majestic and ancient pharoh's crown.

He lost his noble heart and so at last, a true lover he had found. Within her dark passionate embraces, he slowly felt his mortal self begin to  helplessly drown.

Coins were made by him to honor her when he brought her back home to Rome.  She made him a golden statue of herself and placed it inside venus's temple, so he could worship his prize alone.

His senate had then denied him the worth of his political gain.  Remember the Ides of March, a hallowed night in which she recalls vividily her past true lover's name.

Patiently, on her pampered pavillion, she waits stealthly for his return.  This Queen of the Nile, so self contained, tutored in Egyptian pride, so self assured, powerful, and learned.

It is Antony who returns to her, slowly driving her
mad.  Antony and not Ceasar, who returns to her.  So why isn't her heart glad?

Her heart returns sadly on that fatal black day, to
the only man whom she had ever adored. It is Ceasar, The Great and Mighty Ceasar, whom in her structured solitude does the Queen of the Nile, silently and reverently now, still mourns.

Just a history buff skimminmg through the pages of time. Thanks for your indulgence!
