Creep deep in the depths of this darkness,
Where dwells the madness and sadness;
Run from the morning sun and the light
Crawl away from the beaming of the day;
With scraping sound as you make your way,
Slipping into the places that hold the night.

But what of these holding places of the night,
The little bits hidden and hiding darkness
Places for a nocturnal safe hide-a-way
Where they can be consumed by their sadness
While the others bask in the bright of day
Soaking in the warming of the sun’s light.

Those hiding long not for the warmth of light
But wait for chill of evening to cold of night
And the ending of the blinding of the day
To feel the comfort of the cover of darkness
And shadow deep their face of sadness
That at their soul just scraps away.

And as their spirit scraps away
Taking more of the inner light
Leaving more of the sadness
Making more to hide in night
Under blankets of darkness
And less of the day.

There’s less and less each day
As more and more slips away
Till there is nothing left but darkness
That is untouched by the light
Becoming only a creature of the night
A vessel for his soul of sadness.

There are cracks that leak the sadness
That seep with weep into the day
That refills itself in the pool of night
But less is filled than seeps away
And more it needs to hide from light
Till it empties to nothing but darkness.

It is not the night that makes the sadness,
It is not the darkness that makes the day
It is just the way for those burned by light.

Gloom

Sestina:

a poem consisting of six six-line stanzas and a three-line envoy, where the words ending the lines of the first stanza are repeated in a different order at the end of lines in each of the subsequent five stanzas and, two to a line, in the middle and at the end of the three lines in the closing envoy. The patterns of word-repetitions are as follows:

1 2 3 4 5 6
6 1 5 2 4 3
3 6 4 1 2 5
5 3 2 6 1 4
4 5 1 3 6 2
2 4 6 5 3 1
(6 2) (1 4) (5 3)

The Desert, She (Sestina)

The torrid heat of the afternoon sun
Life absorbing, the mid-morning dew
Leaves tracks in the mind, erased by the winds
As clouds drift in sky, a heavenly blue
Floating above the starkness in bloom
The strength of frailties filling the gloom

Ocherous landscape desolate this gloom
As afternoon temperatures rise in the sun
Graceful the flower of yuccas white bloom
Northern Flicker atop cactus rich, dew
With blossoms of cardinal, in contrast of the blue
Painting the barren in the swirl of the winds

Clouds running wild, the approaching, storm winds
Heavy in moisture challenging the gloom
Darkness to deepen the light of the blue
Cools down the flames of the fiery sun
Drenching in pools, the parched dry of dew
Providing relief for the next dawning's bloom

An oasis in mind begins to form, bloom
I crawl into my dreams, cloaked in your winds
The dampness created, the touch-causing dew
Frees, provides refuge from the forgotten gloom
As the storm abates and the beautiful sun
Streaks the sky silent, blending in blue

Dusk, viewing above, serene shades of blue
'Til occupied skies, sparkle their bloom
An indigo night, asleep, rests the sun
Dunes in moon's shadows, a calming of winds
Lends glistening fingers to stave off the gloom
Awaiting the morning, a thirst for its' dew

Seeking the fertile, in arid, of dew
Majestic the woman, each step senses blue
Life is a day in time, in this gloom
A traveler's challenge for each dawn's new bloom
The coolness of night to the warmth of day winds
Silent sand steals, when awakens the sun

As the sun recedes to the blending of blue
Droplets of dew weep their yield upon bloom
Night swallows the warm winds, laying rest to the gloom.

Dear Professor ~

I can see that this poetic form is not for the faint of heart!

You appear to have done it very well, as has our naked one!

Very impressive--and done in your identifiably gloomy and brooding style!

Sending you lots of love & Light--whether you want it or not!

~ and some smiles and hugs thrown in for good measure!
