I wonder if she hears the drums so far from home here with my son, the indian girl who stole his heart with hopi charm, not cupid's dart. I have to ask now, does she feel has she even seen the reel, film of tribal prayers uplifted with the spirit is she gifted? Her people now back there away in Tuba City where she did stay, a tiny village of native pride where once this beauty did reside. With my son, a father too young still, how I love this precious one, the little chocolate indian boy, now this grandma's pride and joy. On this night it's sorrows wrap upon my shoulders, I need no map to show me where a people mourn the place where my grandson was born. Tonight I'll share this people's pain, no drums, instead prayerful refrain, for the indians who gave to me, this child I love unceasingly. I'll pray for the indian maiden dear that she will know, that she will hear the lovely woman with the ebony hair, I'll pray the drum beats fill the air. That they will reach her native spirit I'll pray for her in sleep to hear it. WhiteRose 03/28/03 [This message has been edited by WhiteRose (03-28-2003 11:56 PM).] |

Thank you Martie, unfortunately I forgot to post the painting when I originally posted the poem, so the poem is centered, while the painting is not. Silly me. I appreciate your very kind words. |

Ethel, I couldn't help but think about my son, and his grilfriend, (who is a hopi indian) when I saw the report yesterday about the hopi indian who was reported MIA. And then all I could see was the darling face of my grandson. My son lived on the reservation for a couple of years, and I've been there visiting in the past. When we lived in AZ it wasn't that far away from where I lived. Thank you dear friend, for your very kind words. |
