Among lessons children learn
To help them responsibly grow up.
One you've heard again and again
Is "Whatever you do, show up."

But isn't it usually better
For you to sit home drinking scotch
Than to break olympic records
For how many things you can botch?

And isn't it safer sometimes,
Not driving to where you should be,
Especially when the pedestrian
You happen to run down is me?

Let's face it, aren't you someone who,
When you show up for an occasion,
Contributes less to our good time
Than Attila the Hun's invasion?

Exactly...so many times I find myself thinking this when I run into heavy traffic...as I yell loudly...do all you people really have a need to be on this freeway...why don't you just do us a favor and stay home...and how many are thinking the same about me...but of course all my drives are important...ha...James

I think if you get this on billboards, you could bring traffic jams and shopping sprees to a halt.  Great write!  Ken J

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Exactly! Well stated!

LOL, I've wondered just what the highways would look like if even 25% of the workforce/drinking force just took a day off.
I might be tempted to drive into the city again at 5PM on a Friday.

I know that this poem is about driving
while drinking.....and I totally agree
with you.

The first thought that came to my mind when reading the title, though, was about how many times I have thought when I was at Church, a social gathering, or lots of other places...why didn't he (or she) just stay home, rather than hating to be wherever they were at. When someone goes somewhere just because they feel obligated or because they think it's the "right thing to do", they usually end up making things unpleasant for someone else.

Well, didn't mean to say all that...

Heart Hugs,
Ethel
