Chipmunk Haven
By Larry Chadwick
In memory of Lyra

I knew a little chipmunk that had so much to give,
You could see it every day just by how she lived.
She struggled with the challenges of the seasons,
The loss of her son and her health were among the reasons.

But as you would expect any chipmunk would surely be,
She was full of spunk and had even more energy.
It seemed she could write just as fast as she could talk,
And I would guess she always ran rather than to walk.

She cheered my life as chipmunks are so apt to do,
And always offered encouragement whenever I was blue.
These woods won’t be the same now that she has past,
But scattered all about are gems that will forever last.

So this winter was too much for a chipmunk to endure,
And we’ll miss her very much that certainly is for sure.
Thank you for the blessings that you brought here to your friends,
Thank goodness these woods have no walls and our haven never ends.
March 18, 2003

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

bring us through the

Lovely homage to our beloved Lyra. You are one who has known so much loss and sorrow in your own life, can write from that place like no other. This is yet another such write. Bless you for this. Lyra is smiling...

Well, I'm crying again. But tears haven't been that far away this afternoon. Thanks for expressing my feelings. I can't write about them.

Another wonderful proof that we had a special soul residing here amongst us.
Look at all the outpouring of Lyra memory, of Love.
