she feeds silver birds,
platinum white locks,
kissed by golden halo sun,

basking in heavenly light,
fitting adornment
for this angel,
forever young and beautiful to me,

somewhat fragile now,
tattered patches
gathered on
her quilt of life,
threads of a hard life's stress,
woven together with grace,
touched by her loving hands,

she is everything
i could only imagine to be,

i am at best a twisted twig,
tainted and vain, hopelessly human,
to her, the saintly tree,

she is in tune with birds above,
while i strain to merely listen and grasp,
at some semblance of life's meaning,
reading of sutras, and ancient wisdom,
when she is already there,

she stands now in later years,
at the beconing
of nearby eternity,

i wish her soul
for some very deserved peace
to fill her remaining earthly years,
before the call back home,
as she will have to wait some time there,
for me,

for now, i am grounded, time spent,
tending to my own garden,
athough her shadow
will always transcend back to those, below
lookin over the harvest, she lovingly reaped,

she reached for my arm today,
crossing winter weary streets of snow,
and i looked into her kind and wise eyes,
and saw for the first time,
both her timelessness and her fragility,

and my heart
at that moment,
cried of the truth,
as i wondered, though somewhat selfishly,

of when her stay on earth is done,
who will then,
as i must still remain,
be there when,
she is gone,

who will be there, then,
to mother
me?

Goodness Michele - you know I'm fragile - tears welling up here - this is excellent -

i am at best a twisted twig,
tainted and vain, hopelessly human,
to her, the saintly tree,

always always no faults seen but in our own eyes

I fear the same, my friend.  Your writing touches deep. xxoo

Beautiful and really touching.
Who will mother you? She will, always .... even from Above.

This is so touching & lovely. My sister and I lost our mother when she was far too young to "go home."  I often try to imagine her with silver hair and weathered hands. You are so lucky to still have your mother to hug and to hold her hand. I do so in my dreams.    Chris

Very Nice Michele! Treasure each day that Mom is around for its a gift denied many. Mom is gone, Dad is gone and I can only see them in my dreams. Even though the years have past, the dreams are as vivid as yesterday. Take her hand tenderly and hold it like you will never let it go. Sometimes the ones we love leave us far too soon.

Michele~  You write with such style and a hands on commitment to all that matters to you most.

I get the feeling you and your daughter have the same kind of fragile wings, that were made to hold you up when the going gets rough.
I can so relate to what you have written here...very beautiful, really!

THis is a beautiful write.  Is in possible that someone looks at you the same way you look at her?  This truly is lovely.  Ken J

I have two daughters 14 and 11...and my mother died when I was 10. This poem just broke me apart.

oh wow what a reflective piece... *sigh*
Haven't seen my mom or talked to her alot since she moved out when I was six. But my grandma, the one who was always my 'mom' she was white haired though! but everything a daughter would ask for. She did go home though.. and I just assure you.. treasure the wisdom you've been given, she will still be there to mother you, *clasps on to her necklace* trust me.
Always, Alyssa

This is really appropriate on this day of Celebration of our mothers. It has been 7 years since my mom went to a better place. The ache in my heart has dulled but not gone. I hope those whose mothers are still with us appreciate all they have done. Treat your moms with the love and respect they deserve. To those whose mom's are not feeling up to par at this time of the year, our prayers are with them and you!
