Farther Than Mexico “Come back to me,” the ancient sound of Dana’s voice, tremulous and rich, as rich as the chocolate of her eyes, the sound of her even smelled good, if only in his memory… Konrad’s truck made it to Nuevo Laredo, but the rattling had begun back in Amarillo and the blue smoke turned gray in San Angelo then finally heaved a black sigh when he pulled into the graveled pit of a truck stop and died. Thinking that a truck stop was as good a place for any old truck to die, Konrad hefted out his belongings, took the title and registration from the glove box, and hoped his boots still had enough sole because the road was still long between here, and the digs where Dana should be. Belize. Where shards of pottery were as plentiful as broken hearts scattered on February 15, where the jungle runs tropical and would make a stateside greenhouse blush with its opulence, where Dana was, on her knees, pulling up buckets, cleaning up broken homes, cataloguing past families and their histories. Where Dana’s ancient voice still sang, “Come back to me,” and still her voice rang clear in his mind, the steamy silk of her still in his heart, and he hoped more than he dared dream to find her once again, in a waterfall that they could make their own. So we're going to get to meet Dana? I like the direction you're taking this, Kari. Stories for snowstorms... Bet Mexico's a lot warmer, Konrad always was the smart one! |

Karilea--even having lost part of the story, I find the telling of this bit intriguing. You do this so well! |

This is my favorite photo of you to date! You look wonderful! You radiate sunshine! You put the "teller" in story! Another fine example of your writing capabilities! May your alterego shine down on you this day, EA |

Love where your taking this... so glad Konnie got over that migraine The imagery and settting of this is perfect... As one who has nursed clunkers for years, this really strikes home. From other comments, this must be a part of a series? It is a beautiful story. Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |
