What about this deal trading nuclear technology for mangoes, anyway? I'd be interested in your opinions. |

doesn't that violate some kind of fair trade agreement? I am apparently 'not up' on this issue. Mangos are the better value. Seriously though, can you offer me an in-depth story link to this? |

India is the clear winner in this deal, and I don't think the United States gets anything out of this deal (except for mango parfaits, LOL!) Energy prices will only go down a whisker in result of their inauguration into the "Nuclear Club". Though it won't increase the tensions among those who have had to endure higher costs for winter heating and such, I fear tensions with others in the international community will grow out of this, where Iran especially will wonder why India seems to wear a halo in being trusted on nuclear technology, but with them, all hell breaks loose. Iran is going to use the India issue as political leverage in why they don't have the right to nuclear technology, North Korea will too, China will be part of the conflict, and meanwhile I've been predicting eventually Iraq will try to rush toward nuclear development in following their lead. The US-India relationship is certainly stronger after this decision, but elsewhere relationships are uncertain or shaky, and in terms of reversing the trends of nuclear proliferation in the world, this is one step backward. I believe Noah is wrong “this is one step backward.” India already has the “Bomb”, what they don’t have is the technology to use the Nuclear to power. Would you rather have them use fossil fuels or perhaps continue to use dung? Most of the rural areas of India have no power sources of note, this would electrify the country. Don’t let the liberal American paranoia about atomic energy sway you Even if we got nothing it would be better for mankind or Humanity. Besides, Mangoes are nice Gloom |

Mangoes are nice, Professor...but I believe there's much more going on which we'll never know. Thanks for your comment, Noah. LOL....Kacy, I'm afraid to try and put anymore links... But the deal is, according to last week's news that Bush traded nuclear technology with the Indian government for mangoes, no kidding -- 'course, I don't know how many mangoes....lol. |
