US senator stands by Nazi remark Thursday 16 June 2005, 21:38 Makka Time, 18:38 GMT "A US senator has refused to apologise for comparing the actions of US soldiers at Guantanamo Bay to those of Nazis, while others have decried or defended the mandate and method used to hold prisoners there. US Senator Dick Durbin on Wednesday refused to apologise for comments he made on the Senate floor referring to Nazis, Soviet gulags and a "mad regime" like Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Durbin did not plan to apologise for the comments, spokesman Joe Shoemaker said. "This administration should apologise to the American people for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorising torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure," Durbin had said in a statement on Wednesday evening." Aljazeera was more than happy to spread Durbin's comments to the arab world. Don't look for his comments on the network news....somehow it doesn't appear...wonder why? Maybe they will name the next suicide bomber after him in appreciation of how he has helped their cause. He, and his cronies, must be very proud of themselves. They will trash anything to get at the administration...such a noble group. |

Heard about those comments on John Gibson's Big Story on FoxNews this afternoon. What I really don't expect happening is Mr. Durbin being taken to pieces on any Progressive, Socialist, or similiar liberal websites and blogs. Hell, next you know, Durbin will be making claims that the enemy combatants were originally IN recognizable military uniform, but were stipped in full view of Muslim women amid burning Korans and stuffed into civilian clothing just so the US could circumvent the Geneva Convention. I don't care about his political affiliation. Any elected public servant, irrespective of ideology, who says such unpatriotic things is less than deserving of any modicum of respect from me. I hope his constituents remember when next he runs, if they don't straight up recall his butt. |

I agree, 'cat. Hell, with Trent Lott being forced to resign for an off-color racial slur at a private birthday party that is the LEAST that should happen to Durbin. hmmm...is it only coincidence that Durbin rhymes with turban - and not that far from taliban? He is a disgrace.... |

If that's what you got out of it, animal, then that's what you were looking for to begin with. Don't bother trying to disguise it. If all you can do is look for ways to insult, go bother somebody else. i'm not interested.... |

Alicat, if you will, go ahead and close it. I had hoped to hear other people's views about Durbin's comments, not to get lured into an insult-trading exchange with another member. It's not worth it. Close, please. |
