Shall we baptise this Alley into Political Alley, because that's almost all I read about here lately. Not that it bothers me very much, but I just wondered: Is politics the only thing that makes people mad today? What happened to all the bad bosses, the bad teachers, the bad moms and dads???? ![]() Just wondered, that's all, I'm not mad today ![]() Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

It goes in cycles. And there have been some things which didn't start out political, but quickly became that way. I think those threads were about religion to start with, another contentious topic. Especially when mixed with politics. ![]() |

quote: No one ever disagrees about those, Titia! You can rant in any room of the house (and most do), but disagreements are what characterize the Alley. Thinking back on it, I remember one of our earliest disagreements in the Alley was the result of someone stepping forward to admit they didn't think free verse was "real" poetry. If it didn't rhyme, it must be prose. That was a doozy of a thread. ![]() |

Heh, yep. Those topics which generally would start off better in Philosophy, but end up being standard Alley fare just due to Views. There were so many ruffled feathers you could've stuffed a mattress and slept good, after your temper subsided. ![]() |

![]() Titia, I understand your concern very much! I do also agree as of late this forum has leaned almost entirely on politically-themed topics. Indeed I can also understand why, even when those blood-sucking ticks just keep sending us in loops, back to Iraq and such. The latest poll in anticipation of the second inauguration of Bush shows the U.S more divided than ever, with optimism down compared to the first auguration. I hate politics more than anything else in the world. I only continue to participate because I love this country and feel it is obligatory and genuine in nature when you feel strongly about it and see something's wrong to get involved with your community. And the way Bush has declared a 51% election win a mandate and saying this election justified America's position on Iraq, that's, of course, NOT true, so I feel I have to get involved as I encourage everyone who feels otherwise should, for if not the media will just continue to falsely interpret and stereotype us. That's just my feel on the whole thing. But, yes, absolutely, there's far more to life than politics, and I hope no one forgets that. Because everything else in life is prettier, and even the alternative upsetting things in life deserve a chat. Hey, there's arguments on Feelings and pipTalk Lounge also! Sincerely, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you But if the bright lights don't receive you You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20 |

![]() (giggles) That's the astrology talking again! ![]() Many reports are saying that my own planet, Pluto, will continue on its path through Sagittaurus in 2005, putting laws, education and politics at the forefront of everyone's minds, and my sign in particular, so I will be more involved than ever through January especially (a.k.a Bush's inauguration) especially when some moons of Capricorn join up with the Moon to make it impossible to remain silent, and will continue on through March at least (a.k.a the 2nd anniversary of the war in Iraq) I was just pointing out to Titia why there's this obsession with political discussion here, even when progress is seldom made and we keep looping the loop. I feel we're all in this together, whether you like to believe it or not. So, yeah, just the Scorpio talking, plus a little pre-inauguration protest caffeine kick happening! ![]() Sincerely, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you |

I for one am sick of all the political stuff. There are better things in life to complain about than that stuff....but that is just my thoughts on it. Doesn't seem to matter, I think folks can take any topic and make it political... ![]() |

Exactly what SEA said!! I am also finding political issues here. Sometimes I like reading them because some of us in here are VERY political and really know their stuff and the comebacks among each other are very interesting. ![]() I don't know much about politics, but you sure get educated just reading some of these threads. ![]() ![]() |

Noah, you do know I'm jesting with you...can't let the big boys have ALL the fun! My husband is into politics what seems like 24/7, 365/year...in other words...that's why you don't find me saying much when it comes to the Alley having politically heated discussions. I get enough of that at home. However, I DO read you guys and gals when it comes to all of that, just to see how much variance each side gives one another. You are right, Noah. We're all in it together, and for heaven's sake, the USA has been arguing about it for quite some time now...and we shall always be at odds with one another, except when we pull for our country together. And again, we do that in several unique and interesting ways. So we stumble forward as we do...and in the blue halls, we manage to maintain not only our individual dignity, but our identities as well. Score one for the PiP side of politics! But it WOULD be nice to see a LITTLE digression in 2005... ![]() |

It is very tiring, and it is sad to see so many have their dinnertime conversations flooded with politics 365 days a year. That is sad, as I always believe asking children how their day was or saying how great the weather is, etc. should always make up the most important conversations with family and such. The dirty truth is, though, there's many who try and stay away from politics, but the awful truth is politics affect everyone. The Native Americans never wanted to get involved, but because they faced decades of suppression and robbery, they have no choice now in holding onto what remains. Or a thirty-something mother who's trying to find a way to afford health care, etc. Politics is by far the most wicked and stupid game to me. But I definitely believe so many are currently being suppressed, particularly Arab and Muslim Americans, gays and the homeless. Deep in my heart I feel even more guilty if I don't get involved to see to it their civil rights and liberties are protected, just as I feel I'd be just as wrong as our current administration if I didn't get out there and protest the war and thousands being killed. Politics are unfair, period, and they bend so many innocent bystanders to its will. It's just a bunch of word vomit. I'm just talking it out in seeing to it at least no one gets hurt or blacklisted. I make an effort to digress all I can. In my pipTalk Lounge journal, for instance, I often make random, humorous entries, with the occasional political slant. The truth is, though, war is the ugliest thing of all, peoples lives are at stake during any type of war, and I don't believe in war, so it's only fair I dedicate my time to stop it once and for all for the sake of everyone, and I just can't help but talk about Iraq a lot because in my heart I just couldn't imagine it any more wrong. It's just the way I feel. But I'm always up to talking about all sorts of other things too, like why they always put the tabloids as official news in grocery stores and tuck the real news down Aisle 22, or why they have to make Marshmallow peeps sooooo cute I just can't eat them! ![]() Sincerely, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you |

LOL and you have only two parties, what would you be doing in my country where there are some 10 to 15 parties (don't know exactly, lost count) to disagree about, wouldn't that be fun??? You wouldn't even have the time to write poetry anymore ![]() I was just teasing you a bit, I follow the threads too once in a while, but always end up shaking my head in amazement. I know, war isn't funny, but terrorism isn't either and both ways we end up with dead people who were loved and couldn't be missed by someone. Just one last thing though: I heard Bush saying: "So help me God"? I thought expressing ones religion openly is something rather sticky today in the USA? ![]() Surely hope I didn't step on somebody's toes. If that's the case, I'm more than willing to come over and kiss the pain off (if you pay my ticket that is, because I'm broke after rebuilding and redecorating the house, ha ha) War has been on this earth since the beginning of life and I don't think it will ever stop as long as there is life.
