The Birth I was cradled inside her warmth for an eternity being fed by her life and slowly devoping in form I knew she was concious of my existance yet unknowing of just who I was She comforted me in the cradle of her mind as her inner self pointed the direction time’s gestation burning slowly until the season of my forthcoming The womb was filled with my presence and I felt the tug and pull of the sea trying to release me with an undertow of purpose Then, in the middle of the night, her awareness brought on the labor of love a wellspring of beauty flowing from the fountain of contentment in waves of ebb and flow I came slowly at first Then once the crown appeared I swiftly followed And I was given birth and layed on a sheet of white naked and pure, looked upon with many eyes that knew of splendor and of life I had inherited her beauty and her wisdom and her grace and when they looked at me they were looking at her I came from a cradle of thought in the rhythms of her heartbeat and the depths of her spirit Isn’t that how a poem is born? Elizabeth, As usual you touch me in places that few poets do. Your ending is classic and the poem is excellent. Thank you for being you. Sy |

in waves of ebb and flow I came slowly at first Then once the crown appeared I swiftly followed This is an unbelievably beautiful metaphor, Liz...the birth of a poem...the birth of a person... All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!! ~newborn poetic hugs~ copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

Elizabeth, the description of the birthing process as thanks for a mother or as beginning seeds of thought in poems matters not for your original idea here was a pleasant germ of an idea. tSR |
