Oak brush and cedar 'mid cottonwood trees, Hilltops and valleys, caressed by night's breeze, Scarlet the sumac in deep purple vale, Calm of the evening on the Oregon Trail. Kaw River Valley, beneath wooded crest, Settlers and traders, in seek of the west, No memories of sorrow, from camp eminate, Columbia's valley, is laying in wait. Campfires but embers, verdant their dreams, Great waves of verdure; crystal clear streams, As Pilgrims of Prairie, rest from travail, Polaris above, stands guard over trail. In dreams of the night, the seekers prevail, In search of new worlds, on the Oregon Trail. [This message has been edited by Tim (02-26-2002 12:25 AM).] |

A visit to Fort Laramie - and standing within the vestiges of the wagon train ruts - now rock walls looming down over me.. gives me a real appreciation for this work.. Thank you for the reminder, Tim. These were brave people indeed... |
