Thinking With My Heart

I wish
I could
paint you
I peer down
to the white page
do I paint by design
or by the numbers
the words I try
to control them
but they thrash
of the lost river
and they leap
out in color
to brush you
in tenderness

I wish
I could
move you
with my words
my poetry
is how
I think
with my heart
exposing more
of myself than
I’d like
but the closest
I will
ever come to
you is
breathing your breath
