~* A Penny For My Thoughts *~ Or ~* My Two Cents Worth *~ In Canada, a Loonie is a dollar, A Toonie is worth two, But if we're talking American, It’s worth sixty two cents to you! I’m really mad at Abraham Lincoln or maybe its Her Majesty The Queen. I darn near cried at the bank today trading in my loonies for American green. The teller said for each U.S. dollar, I had to pay a dollar, sixty-two. It’s too late now, I had my ticket there wasn’t much that I could do. I grumbled signing that receipt, wondering who the heck to blame. It wasn’t all that long ago Our currency was just the same. I figured out I was giving “someone” Nine hundred, sixty dollars, all tax free! I asked, “Who gets my money anyway?” Well, that teller couldn’t answer me! Someone, somewhere's sitting pretty on piles of money taken from the bank, counting out their “foreign exchange”, so who is the jerk I have to thank? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Grrr...the exchange rate is brutal $1.00 U.S. = $1.624 Canadian - it hurt! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~* Reality is an illusion ~ albeit a persistant one *~ Albert Einstein [This message has been edited by Mysteria (03-27-2002 02:29 AM).] |

Ouch. But that loon $ is so cool, I'd trade you one-on-one just to have that loon in my pocket. Too bad I'm broke, and not the Bank of America. At least you will be in good company on your vacation. Hugs, travel safely. |

There's most probably at least one "jerk" in every country, responsible for the counting houses...but y'know what? I'll bet this ditty will be a thing of the past once you get something priceless... memories.... I have it on good authority that those that will make 'em are Keepers... |

AMEN!!! I work in an accounting office and have to deal with the exchange as well. Last week it was 59 cents on the dollar to exchange Canadian for American, the lowest I have seen it in sometime. They say the money doesn't go to any ONE but covers the cost of return exchange. I say that still doesn't make any "cents"!! |

LOL .... oh, I know that feeling well Sharon. I mentioned earlier that I remembered going to Florida with my parents several times when I was a child, when the exchange was in "our" favour, and I'd get 25 cents on the US dollar, lol. Boy, now THAT was a long time ago, lol. Here's my 2 cents worth ... Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

A cute poem, with nice pictures As always a splendid mixture, But, Just think of the return exchange You’ll get 1.64 for every American Buck, Of course you’ll have to spend it in Canada then. Gloom |

Passing Shadows, Cocobaci, Verve, Sy, ctowen, Larry, Lucy, Suthern ~ Thanks for putting up with my grrrrrr, and it's funny how money rules everything, what ever happened to the days of trading a horse for a cow? Kit ~ love your spinning two cents LOL, and watch the exchange girl it is going banannas because of the 29% soft lumber tax, to pay attention to it as it up again today, better get your money early! Professor Gloom ~ They get you coming and going, I paid $1.6125 for each dollar I bought (today is $1.6269, so I timed it well), but when I come home if I don't spend it all in the U.S. I will only get $1.5949, so you see I lost 2 more cents on the dollar. Kacy - email me your address I will not only send you a loonie but a toonie see these are awesome... Sunshine ~ Memories to me have no price, and I was just ranting away here, I knew this before I wimped. But honestly folks, B.C. is an ideal spot for American visitors. It is beautiful, and you get so much bang for your buck! Or on the East Coast, Nova Scotia would be my pick there. |

(big hugggsssssss) It too always upsets me to see people take advantage of others and be so selfish like that, money economy to me is so troubling and I wish there was something the government can do to even out the composites! (sad sigh) My heart goes out to you, sweet friend, this thought too troubles me, we all love you so much, this is wonderfully said! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Sharon...I agree with your gripe, but isn't it good that you were able to turn it into a beautiful poem... I think writing is so very therapeutic! You did a great job on it too! copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

I feel your pinch. I live in Windsor.... and we sure get alot of americans shopping over here... I guess it isn't just because the dollar is worth more over here but where I am, the groceries are sooo much cheaper... We only offer them $1.50 on their money though... and they still think that's a deal. And I let it go to the first cashier that wants to buy it from me too....LOL I loved the poem.... sure wish it was like it was back in 72 when ours was worth more .... LOL those were the days!!! Love, Light and Peace, Sherry Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. |

UPDATE Mysteria went into a bank on Cape Cod yesterday to exchange some more $$$... They looked at her Canadian currency, then at her with an oddly quizzical expression and said, "What's THIS?"... Does that mean her money is worth even less here??... |

And she is probably spending it all in one place! We poor Americans don't have the first idea, for the most part, what it is to be "overseas" or even across the border. Tell her to hang tough! |
