I remember seven, being there
and how the sidewalks spoke in chalky, coughing tones
and the cold curl of their ends against my skin.

I remember listening with one ear flat
soft cheek to concrete crying
and the way they called to sadness in straight lines
or tangled up my feet so that I’d stay.

I remember seven, and sidewalks
and the whispers that I blew into their seams
taunting them with the little white pages that I kept
and how I'd trace them with my fingers two and four.

I remember seven, too. A different seven, yet I found some parallels. My seven was in California, and my stories were often etched into San Fernando Valley dirt, or in the sands of Santa Monica. Thank you for helping me re-visit seven, Alicia.

I remember seven, too...wish I thought I could focus long enough to give it this detail.  Excellent.

Stirred up a bit of chalk-dust here too~

Imagery is alive and well ... and may be dwelling in the sidewalk cracks of our town~

I love the thoughts~

you. god. *sigh* lol how could anyone mistake you? This is so tender and clear... somehow softer and less afraid than what you usually write... it allows itself to be heard.

a side note: forgive me for hiding lately, you've written me into satiation with this, with letters. please don't stop.

hugs. love you, a.

Yep, I'd have recognized your writing anywhere. Brought back memories of my seven, playing hopscotch, skipping and barbies. Thanks for the memories Alicia.

~I of course am running late for work, but gosh, these replies, I had to stop and thank you guys for reading and leaving your words behind in response. I have more individual things I'd like to say inside but they will have to wait, but how you and your reading fill me. Please know. *Peace and may your day be filled with warmth. I'm off!
