She’s A Keeper

She keeps a pressed rose from a bridal bouquet
A knot of pale ribbon she wore that day
She keeps them safe in a box of delight
Then takes it out in the darkness of night
At the bottom a faded letter lies
Pages browning, words filled with sighs
His photograph is cracked and a little dim
She presses her lips to it, as she would to him

Looking back she asks did I make the right choice?
Was she fated to always silence her voice?
Her vows she took and meant seriously
Now she pays the price by being lonely
She keeps her promise, her treasure chest
Only retreats into dreams for briefest rest
No one but she knows the price she’s paid
No security just her life betrayed

Her little bits of treasure no wealth is here
Her spirit is broken she’s full of fear
No way out except if she opens the door
That’s unlikely while she’s on the floor
She’s broken of spirit she’s lost her way
But kept her vows come what may
She’s a keeper of promise a keeper of true
No one told her she’d lose more than you?

And you talk about how utterly wonderful my
poetry is??????

Guess what....I think you did it...NOW you
have forced me to write another good one...

BTW...I am wearing a helmet now,  just in
case of the bonk on the noggin!

Oh my Marsha you are on a roll....Yes you are, this is lovely, sad, bittersweet.
All those things that a great poem has in it.
"She’s a keeper of promise a keeper of true
No one told her she’d lose more than you?"

Oh how touching those last two lines are. floria

And what person, male or female
has not asked themselves while
still walking the path they trod
if they would question once again
the mighty hand of God?

Very well done, Marsha! I think our readers will be very pleased to know you were so inspired, and this! This came from your pen...!!

(smiles) Awwwwwwwww, this is such a gorgeous flashback on a woman's timeless keepsakes and the memories she has, sweet friend, I think we can all relate to these feeling just thinking of the objects that are symbolic of those times! (kiss on cheek) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Marsha, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Sometimes, sometimes, it is not what we keep, but why we keep them...

I am so very glad I was a bit of inspiration to you, Marsha...sometimes I think you don't need any help at all...
