This is a chant poem, written for presentation. Two people read...one in foreground, the other in shadow. It was inspired long ago when I saw it done in a coffee house in Seattle. The two are meant to be able to be separated and could stand on their own. Explain the alabaster wind With crying memories. (charred and torn) Fill a mind In paraphrased fantasies. (fragmented papyrus) Show the mermaid In the waterfall. (returned to mankind) Create a miracle From the vacuity of life. (remnants of Alexandria) Chill the bones With weight of thought. (grain of memory) Examine tragedies With beauty and blessings. (pearl of thought) Fly in mud Of ebony blue. (all knowledge) Capture a rose With rope and cage. (all wisdom) Paint the rainbow In shades of gray. (bestowed in faith) Wish a metaphor A goodnight's sleep. Listen to the muse... |

Excellent!!! What a talent, what a skill. They stand alone well and are more than the sum of the parts together. I'm thinking that is certainly the goal of such a device. Enjoyed the read!! Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

I enjoyed this, I'd love to see this one at a reading. Well done! We are all just prisoners here of our own device ~ Hotel California, The Eagles |

As I read this I could hear the two voices. And you are so right, each could stand on their own. Outstanding poetry Amusemi!! |
