Communal spirits hits hard in havoked families
money comes between, family ties turn weak
In-law rules set in, outlook is bleak
widened gap hits those with fewer amenities.

Invitations are shred over kitchen sinks
an air of discomfort...people do not gravitate;
company that does not congeal..it hestitates
ancestors, now thin memory, once kept fond links.

Black jackets that sit on straight back chairs
face warm hearths and young eyes buldge and stare;
sinewy hands wrench messages from brimmed hats
a thought sparks...'I am in company of rats'.

Children run away and play..they feel protected
black jacket fidgets, sniffs the air is infected;
groupies nudge around the host... money comfort feels nice
solitary man, reminded of differences, feels hair lice.

Festive spirits turn sour, communal ties turn weak
in-law rules draw attention, set double standard peaks
sinewy hands wrench message from straight backed chairs
face adoring relatives, judgemental with their glassy stares.

When the very best of life, relationships... are lost to the commerce of society...Do we know what freedom really is?

Diamond,

lost to the commerce of society..I like that
expression..they are slaves to that commerce too!

Newell,

It is insoired by a good childhood friend faced by his sister-in-laws double standards..
wanting to show generosity with tight fists..if you know what I mean

Seymour,

looking at the ugly side of pretencious invites, since Passover is around the corner, glad you liked this!

BRAVO!!! Oh Martin, it too saddens me to see commerce tarnishing relationships nowadays, I wish we could be more free like we used to and love someone for who they are rather than be forced to be wrapped up in the economical sense! (big huggssssss) This is very well expressed, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
