There are days when things get intense, And you wonder if it makes any sense. Integrity has become hard to find, Credibility left right behind. It’s the business of going to work. Imagining other surprises will lurk. For the magic that was there so long, Seems to have been sold for a song. Pieces of the puzzle all lay about, Assemble it yourself if you doubt. The times are hard and getting worse, Attitudes are short and people are terse. We’ll never get back what we had, And that makes me feel so very sad. But they can’t take away our past, Even if it wasn’t meant to last. Now it’s the moving on that is rough, We must make decisions that are tough. But we will do what is for the best, Most of us able to pass the test. Others will stay until it’s through, They don’t know what else to do. But many of us will move on, And pine for the days that are gone. March 13, 2002 Everybody thinks of changing humanity and nobody thinks of changing himself. Leo Tolstoy |

I sure can relate to that one Larry, that is why I quit work before I had a heart attack. It is really a rat race out there now that is for sure, and you said it well. The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives. |

Susan, Thanks. Already have plan B. So.... Lauren, You know...it's the thick of the daily battle where I could get in trouble. But plan B helps keep that perspective! Thanks. Tara, See...now I'm feeling sorry for you instead. Poor thing! You need a plan B. Thanks. Sharon, Now...I had plan B and then you go and make it look pretty lame! Thanks. |

I know this situation a little too well too Larry. I may be reading this from my own vantage, but it used to be that you could work for one company right through to retirement. It seems that somewhere along the line ... the rules changed, and they coined that horrible "downsizing" word. We hear it far too often these days. I'm glad to hear there's a plan B though! Much enjoyed your thoughts in this piece. Best wishes, /Kit |

Interesting read to cap off the in-house seminar given yesterday on Franklin time management, and the thoughts provoked by it. Told to list four "priority items" on my things I want to do, we were then forced to throw away items numbered 3 and 4. I was quickly reshuffling my priorities, believe me, for I did not want to let go of any of them, but when forced to look at things that way [akin to taking something from a house on fire, I'm sure!!!] you quickly realize what is MOST important... all I could think of was...glad my kids were grown and out of the equation... |

"Others will stay until it’s through, They don’t know what else to do. But many of us will move on, And pine for the days that are gone." (big hugggssssss) Oh Larry, this poem made me feel so nervous deep inside, I haven't yet experienced what it is like to work like that, but I am sure it is so very difficult and it too saddens me to see so much freedom we had lost now and how families seem to be seperated each day by the ethics and guidelines they have to follow and scrutinize! (sad sigh) I think we can all relate to this thought, sweet friend, I pray somehow we can revive the past and live an American dream that is far less complicated! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is excellent! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

dor, You're only the second person to pick up on my Critique comment. So thanks for the hugs and also the nice comments on my poem. Kit, Except now they call it "rightsizing"! I call "attempted recovery." Hey, as always, thank you for your kind words. Peace. Sunshine, You get to do seminars! Our budgets are way past that. LOL Priorities matter don't they? Thanks for you support and concern, always. Sandra, Sad but true! Thanks for understanding. Sy, I'm sure it's more enjoyable to read than to write. LOL Thanks though. Everybody thinks of changing humanity and nobody thinks of changing himself. Leo Tolstoy |

OH NO, did they measure your wrist?? You know, for the proverbial goodbye watch? Downsizing...another euphemism that makes me gag. YOU'RE FIRED! sounds brutal, but much more honest. I rather liked saying I QUIT! and beat them to the old punchout timeclock. Just think, some day you'll have oodles of time to read and write poetry, and spar with Miss Lucy and the Balladeer. Meanwhile, you are probably too valuable to the Boss, and will no doubt be the next-to-the-last one out the door. |
