Winter's Last Breath...Again

The snow was so pretty last week
it was fun to have just one more peek
this week spring will be here for sure
but this winter just wants to endure

her frigid beauty still grips us tight
covering new spring growth with white
hungry birds fight for space at our feeder
with Mr. Squirrel, that fat overeater

our winter coats had been put away
but it looks like we'll need them again today
for just one last time, we'll wear our boots
as white fluff shrouds those brand new roots

everyones hungry for spring
but this icy stuff just wants to cling
we've had quite enough of those pretty white flakes
and this frigid weather which we can't seem to shake

winters' almost over now, and springlike warmth beckons
but just this one more time, with snow...we have to reckon

Hi Lyra!  I know exactly what you mean and the winds sure are howling tonight and the temps taking a nosedive!  Every time I think it's over, like yesterday when we were in the 60's, winter has one last say! Let's hope this is the last of it until next winter.  I absolutely love the pic!  Spectacular!

I won't mention that it was seventy degrees here today then... Of course, spring storms can be lots of fun... They come & go quickly, and they're surely beautiful... Nicely said, Madame C...

Nancy...thanks for your reply...
Yes, it has probably hit you too!
The wind has been swaying the trees wildly, all day long.
When we woke up this morning, it was pouring rain and it was about 60 degrees.
A friend of mine who lives right on Lake Michigan...about 30 miles west of here, said that they had thunder and lightening this morning.  Either it was before we woke up, or it never got here, but we never saw or heard lightening and thunder.
The sheets of rain coming down were quite amazing though.
They really looked like sheets!

Nan...thanks for replying.  You probably haven't gotten the snow yet in Cape Cod, Mass.  But its coming!
I was watching the Weather Channel and the cold front is working its way from east to west, carrying with it...swirling winds and snow.  You will probably get hit tonight or tomorrow...
Now, I am your personal weather forecaster and I am telling you that we had 3 seasons here in Michigan today.
I guess this is a great place to live if you like to see the seasons change.

Barry...thanks for replying to my poem.
Well...it was 60 degrees here this morning, so we're not far off as the temperature goes today, but this is probably unusual.
I have actually been enjoying this storm because I haven't had to go outside for anything today.....that is the best way to enjoy a storm.
I'm back for a couple of days, but I start treatment on Tuesday, in Ann Arbor...so I don't know how often I will get here after that.  Treatment will go for 6-7 weeks, and then if I am not totally drained, I will probably be back for a while.
Thanks again......enjoy the weather

Thanks, Noah....yes I would believe it.  Its the same storm we are getting right now.
According to the Weather Channel, its traveling across the entire northern tier of the country from west to east.
I hope its the last one of the season.  March sure is coming in like a lion, this year.

Thanks Victoria...
I think we must have switched weather.
It was in the sixties when we woke up and now its in the twenties here...and its supposed to get even colder tonight.
We also have a high wind warning...

That is SO British Columbias story! Quite annoying too! But I love the way you've done this! Thanks for the read!

Thanks for your reply, Skyfire...
I actually like this weather...but only on days when I have nowhere to go...
today has been such a day.
Its more fun to look out at it then to be outside in it.
especially if I have to drive somewhere.

Madame Chipmunk, we didn't get any snow. But, last night we got alot of rain and the wind was so strong, it shook our trailer. I was afraid it was going to blow us away. I am ready for the spring.

P.S. I hope you are feeling better.

lyra,

i live in a tropical country in which there is lots of sunshine and rain but no snow...i would love to experience the dilemma highlighted in your poem some day...sigh..

p/s: of course, i didn't think of you as a hallucinator(is there such a word?) and a scatterbrain...those were meant to be tongue-in-cheek humour...i apologise if i have offended...

Smartchick.....thanks for your reply.  It looks like the entire country either has had this windstorm, or is going to get it tomorrow.  Windstorms, or any storms for that matter can be very romantic.

I forgive you, faterider...especially since you have been deprived of snow.
everyone should have a chance to play in the snow...at least once in their life...
As I child, I used to love playing in it, but now I love to watch it fall when I'm inside my nice cozy house.

Chipper Ms Chipmunk, we had a little breeze here today. That made for a chilly doggie run this morning. Actually, I am still enjoying winter today, as Sara and I went to the Ice Carving exhibit here in Fairbanks. The ice sculptures are incredible! You wouldn't believe what some people can do with a chainsaw and sculpting tools. Ice dragons, bears, horses, salmon, all kinds of fantastic sculptures carved by world class artists. And whimsical kiddie ice slides and ice tunnels that made me wish I had worn ski pants instead of sweat pants. Never mind the fact that the tunnel was low to the ground and narrow, and I probably would have gotten stuck in there! But the icy winds gave me a bit of hypothermia today, and I had to take a warmup nap when we got home. Meanwhile, el sol was shining at the usual low northern angle in the sky, teasing us with a hint of what's to come.
Wow, did I just write you an ice essay?
