She waited long and limber
down the gravel road
just past the lanes
of oldest oak
breaking day in tunnels

A special place
where Irish lore
somehow managed
to harmonize
with the gales of Cherokee
in long cried streams of stones

the wail was cold, but beautiful

She heard them speak
beneath the trees
she ran
into the highest fields of corn
to suffer there
in her mane of strawberry briar hair
deciphering the language
through a writing spider’s web

She was the only one
that felt the nudge
of hens crowing morn

born to sing lullabies
beneath thistle snow
to dance upon moss rocks
scarring, marking her
making her strong enough
to be drug by a strangers horse

As she sat on tin roofed edge
and called the rain by name
looking away
when the banshee screamed

Instead she dreamed
of her first kiss
knowing she’d never
belong to anyone

as her old soul
mourned with different eyes
and her dangling legs
trembled timber length

she slowly disappeared

This is truly and wonderful work of art, Regina. You really are a soul born to dance over the moss.

Hello Regina

Your words always seem to carry me away to another place in time, a place filled with love and wonder.  The way you write is so very unique and so much enjoyed by me.  I don't see you here very often but when I do it always brings with it a smile and a feeling of warmth.

Take care my friend.......Sue

great writing...you have such nice imagery here...

'as her old soul
mourned with different eyes
and her dangling legs
trembled timber length

she slowly disappeared'

this is an excellent finish..

one line stood out though, and seemed very awkward, and that was the 'drug by a horse'

it's just very heavy...and I'm thinking it might be better to rethink it...

Over all...a pleasure to read..

Larry: Thanks for the treat!!

Interloper: I thank you for reading them as they were meant dear poet! Appreciate your verse as well!

Kay: We are mutual then. It is a gift that only exists in sharing! Thank you so much.

Michael: I truly appreciate your thoughts. This one was a bit deep. Many thanks.

Sven: Yes..my eyes have seen the glory of returning. Thank you Sven Pen.

Vandana: I enjoy you so!!

Severn: Very perceptive poet. I appreciate such depth in review. Actually..that line..was the reason she disappeared for a while..but she is back now. It represented the harsh within the soft. And how the soft can still overcome. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Regina

Regina,
This reminds me of a poem I wrote
called I Saw Her in the Rain --
where grace, beauty and femininity
disappears.

An aching piece.
I love yr work.
