What if you can't do what you really want to do? I want to be in radio. Talk, drama etc. But my voice isn't "radio" material. I'm doing a project now, a mystery show on tape. I'm writing it, producing it, and want to be in it too, but my voice isn't working. It's never sounded good on tape. It sounds much better in my head. Aghhh! Does your voice change when you get to be an adult if you're female? I want mine too! I'm 15 now. Just thought I'd share this with you all. Joy |

Isn't it funny that when we hear ourselves on tape, we always go, "Is that me tlaking, that doesn't sound like me?" "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this give life to thee." W.S. |

My voice is the same everywhere. and it's radio material too! be jealous! I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I'm in love with my shadow I admire it daily |

Nope, it doesn't change, dear ... I'll be 27 on Sunday and I still sound like a child on the phone and on tape. Your voice sounds different to you than it does to anyone else because it resonates in your skull to a certain degree ... in my case, it makes my voice sound deeper than it really is (though I don't know if it's the same effect for everyone). The only advice I can give you if you're looking for a voice change (which I would in turn advise you not to follow) is: start smoking! You'll sound like a guitar being dragged on sandpaper in about 20 years ... Anyway, who's to say that your voice isn't 'radio material?' I personally have heard TOO many DJs that hadn't the faintest talent for public speaking ... imagine Ben Stein with a speech impediment, talking into a tin can, and this was WORSE ... LOL Linda |

The only reason that you won't become what you want to be is because you've said "I can't do it". Sometimes we have to overcome our flaws to become great, and the fact that we had to overcome something like that just makes the goal sweeter. Who would have thought that Macy Gray could win a Grammy with that voice of hers? She did it, though! If you really REALLY want this, you just have to work like crazy. Best of luck. |

Hi Joy, How do you know for sure that your voice isn't radio material? You might try a voice coach or lessons and be surprised at what you can do! It seems this is like learning anything else, you have learn how to do it right and practice. Why not take a chance? It might be fun and at least you tried! Good luck, Debbie |

i have a sctratchy voice i think thats what they call it but i don't understand why people mistake me for a girl on the phone all the time "So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this give life to thee." W.S. |

Thanks everybody. I feel kind of embarassed now for posting this, but you all were very kind about it, so thanks. I think a voice coach would be worth a try and who knows what opporunities are out there, it just depends on who is listening to me. And whether they like it or not. I know that not everyone's voice on the radio I like anyway, so why not. I think if I really want this, I will work towards it, LoveBug. Thanks again, everyone for just listening, so to speak Joy |

Aah, don't worry about it, Joy.. if it's others who say it's not the right kind of voice, ignore them, 'coz there is no right or wrong kind of voice for that sort of job.. and if you really think that is is, yourself? Then you are silly, hehe, because I am sure you can do whatever you want, despite others comments.. k? You go get it.. ^^ Mm, I speak too quietly in class, then too loudly with my friends.. I think I am just shy.. "He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened." Lao-tsu |
