I have forgotten the glow of your candles.
The lines of wax shivering and shimmering.
I have forgotten the touch of your smoke
pressing small pictures to my open hands.
I have forgotten your melting in fire.
Submitting to the whims of color and flame.
I have forgotten the sharp smell of matches
coaxing more embers from a warm coal.

I have forgotten the sight of you swallowed,
corroding to a point, a clean white filament.
I have forgotten the words you remember
when you feel the sear, the search of sealing lips.
I have forgotten the shadows we borrowed
in order that we may be here tonight.
I have forgotten the shapes we must follow
in order that we may be here today.

But I will never forget
the firing of your pen...
or how it scorches the paper
with memory.

"I have forgotten the touch of your smoke

Wonderful, Mike.  Once again, something great to read while I'm supposed to be futhering my excellent education.
