clink! clink! clong! clong! we're building a tower to the sky. don't look back or down the stairs. keep on facing on and up. ask no questions and no answers. follow up, follow up. pass the hammer and the nails, the rivets and the wrenches. we're building, building, building, building a tower to the sky. hoist that heavy pail this way, full of screws and fasteners. keep the structure growing, growing. build no ceiling, build no ceiling. see how high we can reach. higher, higher, higher. build it up, build it up. higher, higher, higher. the floors should keep expanding -- more! the walls should shame all other walls. the stairs should wind and twist and climb and climb and climb and climb and climb. keep it growing! make it work! push it farther! farther! farther! reinforce it! raise it up! build no ceiling! build no ceiling! let the weather smack its sides. blot the blue out with its height. tear a hole straight through the sun. our tower in the sky! do not ask us why we're building. grab a hammer and start pounding! join in! higher! higher! higher! keep it growing! keep it growing! don't look back or down the stairs. keep on facing on and up. ask no questions and no answers. follow up! follow up! keep the structure growing, growing! build no ceiling! build no ceiling! see how high we can reach. higher! higher! higher! |

Now that I think about it, this reminds me of an older poem. A tower to the sky was inspired by an image in Fellini's 8 1/2. The one below was inspired by Herzog's Fitzcarraldo. Pull that boat over the mountain The river hits the trees. Pull that boat over the mountain. Break all roots within the way. Blow up rocks and burst debris. Post pylons. Wrap the weight. Pull that boat over the mountain. Burn the coal and lock the chains, tighten links in strength's restrain. Snap the saplings at their seams. Cut them flat. Hull new seas. Pull that boat over the mountain. Some may die. Hoist the load. Turn the crank. Pulley pull. Some may die. Hoist the load. Drag the boat. Drag the boat. Pull that boat over the mountain. Eeek, am I repeating myself? [This message has been edited by bsquirrel (08-27-2003 03:05 PM).] |
