On the skin of water
Reflected clouds caress
In tender float of evening orange
That bleeds red across rippled wind
And I am reminded of
A blush

Innocence perhaps never regained
Is still remembered
And in gentle ways that belie
The angst tuned whine of then

Tomorrow,
Then sun will again rise
To chase the eastern shores shadow
And the weekenders will return
Laden with grocery and gas
To mount their wave running annoyance
And sate them selves later
With cold beer and a grilled flesh meal
As they swap braggadocio

Sunset will return
A cooler breeze
And I will sit again to watch the skin
Wrinkle
Reflect
And remind

What ever happened to us anyway?
Did we simply forget
Or did caring cease to matter
As we wound lives around routine
And our own choices?

Perhaps one evening
I’ll see you in the sun
And be able to walk away without
My own blush of burn

Until then
I’ll watch the breeze
And feel the waters skin
If not yours

Smile.

(Why ask nicely when threats will do?)

You got me from the opening verse, Cap.

and the rest was just liquid reverie...

sigh. I'm having a poetic feast today.

Thank you for posting this.

Ron

Intimate there, on the porch of your thoughts, watching the sun fall into the ocean.  It is a place I know.  Great writing, as always, my friend!

This is such a delight to the poetic senses. I know this all too well - and this stanza:

"Innocence perhaps never regained
Is still remembered
And in gentle ways that belie
The angst tuned whine of then"

is one of my favorites from the poem.  Very well done, as usual.

Oh my...this is gorgeous...an absolute masterpiece in verse.
You had me hanging on every word.
So beautifully done, my friend.

Well, my poet-friend...I simply fell in to this one and floated awhile...you probably knew I would...after all, this IS sanctuary...

Gives me the same pause for reflection and noticing of beauty as The Straight Story does. Awesome, Ron.

Nice poem.  It sounded a bit like romantic poems such as "The World is Too Much With Us," by Wordsworth.
