the crepe myrtle is in bloom and i am in love with the colors. tiny crinkled petals, like little old men clustered and huddled together shivering in the breeze - a delicate thing wind blowing and i hear the crack of another onslaught of what the natives call a "shower" (shower - hurricane...I can see the similarities) there is a heady, heavy scent almost musky and sensual i wonder if the whole of the south is wrapped in its heavy veil the clouds are large and angry yelling as if their bloated condition is all my fault it is exhilirating, and I can hear the wall encroaching and feel the natural animal instinct to run shivering and stubborn too much to fight, subsumed into the greater - 'cause Gaia does not pick favorites (althought right now I would give anything to be a mole, quietly blind) i am alone in the storm the little old men lose their grip but in passing pause to catch their petals in my hair and caress a cheek whisper secret 'it is well, you are of her and she will hold you, when your time comes' lightning my eye sees only pain, there is no center yet -i am not ready |

Oh my, the imagery, the phrases, jeez every word...is fantastic. I've missed reading you Nicole, you are one of my favourites. Will you teach me to write like you? I'm keeping this... Maree fate is not just |

Thanks you two, I wish I were more happy with this one - but it felt more detached when I wrote it, not sure why? I almost feel like I'm reading a term paper out loud, rather than making a reader feel the poem. Any suggestions would be wonderful. But...I love the praise... heh And Maree, dear dear Maree - lol - when I feel like I want to write something, but I need some inspiration, there are a handful of poets that I search for and read - and one of them is you. You need no lessons from this poor girl. Hugs! |

Ya know... I don't know if this was intentional or not, but I got more than a surface meaning to this... beautiful job is all I can say There's nothing like a good fight with a horse to put your problems into perspective |

yep I usually try to, but this one was written a little heavy-handed. Thank you though, very much! |

"the crepe myrtle is in bloom and i am in love with the colors. tiny crinkled petals, like little old men clustered and huddled together shivering in the breeze - a delicate thing" Are you telling me you honestly don't think the reader felt that? I saw it, tasted it and smelled it! Wonderful job! Susan |

Oh, I especially love the line towards the end: quote:That's VERY cool, I love that part... frightening to think of it that way. I also loved your subtle use of images to set a mood of gloom and forbearing. I felt it, especially when I read of the clouds yelling. Fantastic poetry... Glad you chose to share it with us, Nicole... thanks for the very worthy contribution. Parasite Faith is a fine invention |

Nicole, Love the imagery of crepe myrtle taking on the characteristics of old men. Love the storm -- I can smell it. And love the petals on your cheeks. |

Susan, I'm so glad to hear it, thank you! Andy, thanks! LP - I feel like I was being a touch heavy-handed and clumsy with it, but I'm so glad that you picked that up! Yes, it is frightening, isn't it? What's creepy, is that part came from a dream that I had the previous night. *brrr* Thank'ya dear bsq - Thank you, I really appreciate the comment. |

Well, I don't remember reading you before, Nicole, but I can guarantee I look forward to reading your words again. Such beautiful writing! Enjoying this scene vicariously brought back many memories of four years living in Tallahassee, and the crepe myrtle that draped itself over my driveway. Thank you for this gem, which I'll gladly put in my library. |

'cause Gaia does not pick favorites Nor does Gaia have a bad day. But perhaps you did. Anyway, it's a nice poem. I especially liked the whispering petals, a nice idea. s.a.g. |
