You dared to cling
to a fallible joy.
You were revealed
in deceit and mourning.

When all that mattered
was taken away,
your face torn and grim,
a god's taunts made flesh.

What gave you the bravery
to find a new grace?
What sense of mercy --
uprooting fools' cities.

How did you stare back?
The knowledge to break
contrivance with stone.
How did you stare back?

We are all monsters,
mourning and mourning.
We dare to cling
to fallible joys.

Part of no aegis,
hubris, sins foolish.
We dare to cling
to fallible joys.

I hesitate to say that I'm back, as I still use ASOTS more often. But it's nice to be welcomed, and thank you for reading, Janet.

Your unique use of phrases and imagery is definitely missed here my friend. I know you're at the 'other place', but there are a lot of people here who miss you and appreciate your talent.

aw...you have been missed.

This was like water after a night of tequila.

(that's a GOOD thing.)

The repetition added the impact, and the way you did it? implied question and thought.

smiling, spotted our squirrel in a tree I did, and oh my heart leapt for joy.

love ya mikie.

I love your choice of subject.  Medusa is a perfect example, isn't she?  Once beautiful and proud, but transformed by Athena for making whoopie in her temple.

But she, as you say, found a new pride.  I don't know either, how she could overcome shame and stare back and turn people into stone... but it's truly thought-provoking... we turn our most hated and loathesome elements into objects of pride... we gloat them, we stare back at people and turn them to stone because THAT is our pride, despite our ugliness.

What do you mean by "part of no aegis" though?  I mean, I'm familiar with the fact that Medusa's head was put at the center of the Aegis once she was slain, but how does that apply to people in general?  Maybe I'm not looking deep enough, forgive me if that's so...

You're right.  We dare to cling to fallible joys.  And like Medusa, we're going to lose them, and suffer the consequences.

Oh so nicely done, Mikey... you see?  Nobody can do this but you... and it's so, so nice to have you back.

Hey there, Mikey!
So good to see you around here again...you were missed.

And this poem...just WAY cool...I love it!
No one does it quite like you.
Stick around and share some more...will ya?

And? It's always nice to see the Tiersdin as well.
