Eyes always scanning for half-hidden moments, I fingered with the strap of my camera, figuring a best way to secure its holder with, in a dignified manner I ruined shirts lying on dirty ground, agonised between a stand-up, half-squat or kneeling position and fussed before clicking, rejoicing in my indecision always stolidly retorting jealous critics' reactions with an "I'm taking photos based on feeling" despite such precautions and the regime of a simplistic kind of good, I was later embarrassed at how a resolve to capture the world from my unique point of view has degenerated into a securing session of the superficial |

This is sad, particularly the last stanza. I've always told people that I have a lot of respect for the art of photography, as I've known quite a few extremely talented photographers who knew how to take a picture of something that so brilliantly captured its essence, its feeling... I can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be for you to finally secure such a passionate thing as photography in your career, only to have it degenerate into something superficial... My advice? If this is how you make money, then do it for the sake of making money... the danger of mixing one's art with one's career is that they will often find that what they have to offer isn't what's being asked. Do it in your spare time as well... I'm sure there are people who can appreciate the beauty of your work. Who knows, maybe someday you'll hit it big, and then the general populace will actually want to see your more artistic works. Enjoyed reading this, Kaile... a very important subject matter, put to a well written poem. Thanks for your contributions to Sanctuary. Parasite Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world. |
