"I AM" I am the Semantic Picassso and Culinary Hound I wonder if one hand clapping makes half a sound I hear in silent forests the falling tree's ap I see ragged chorus line angels on pinheads tap I want to see my writings printed and bound I am the Semantic Picassso and Culinary Hound I pretend on the job that I'm earning bread I feel Viagrad angels dancing on my head I touch leathery wings of a horny angel I worry I will never hear the falling tree cl I cry bitter tears for this abortive sound I am the Semantic Picassso and Culinary Hound I understand that angels often need to dance I say, "Help me, I'm in a soft-shoe trance!" I dream my works included in a child's education I try to make the cl and ap estrangéd, one I hope something hears the falling tree hit ground I am the Semantic Picassso and Culinary Hound 5-6-99, written in response to a challenge Background: XAngel, way back when, submitted this challenge to the old timers back on Old Blue. Since then, this challenge has popped up from time to time with wonderful results. Thanks again, Heather. Note: This repost is not a challenge. I was just thinking about it the other day, as one of my favorite autobiographical poems. And it does, as it should, tell a lot about me, should you know how to read betwixt lines. Allicat: This one was rather humourous in parts, but also quite intriguing. What exactly was the challenge? Was it just an autobiographical challenge, or something more along the lines of a certain technical aspect of poetry? "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh" -- Magus |

Thanks deVine and Dopey. DD, I gather you must've really like this one, since your reply contained more than 2 lines. Congrats again on exceeding your posting mark! Fractal, thanks! This was a challenge from XAngel, way back on Old Blue. It has since been revived twice here at PiP. You can find the first thread here. The topic contains the instructions for the poem, though no formatting guidelines were given, that being up to the poet. Alicat |

I feel like I know you a thousand times better now, Cat. And that's definitely a good thing. Great job on the poem! I'll give the challenge a peek. ~Allan Build a man a fire, and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. |
