(I wrote this about my godchild who lives in a housing project with her mom and brother. I took Angel under my wing when she was 3 mos. old and she has brought much joy into my life.) ---Angel--- She looks so intent as she presents me a picture she has drawn with little brown hands. I can see each line has been diligently sketched and the mountains at dawn have been crayoned with true colors of green, yellow, and orange. This gift of love has been created for her real mamaw, and when she emphasizes the word "real," I find myself wishing this designed and fantasized scene of imagination had been created for my eyes and surprise. As a wee babe... I rocked her, sang lullabyes until she dreamed imaginary scenes which perhaps are recalled and transferred to paper visions. I watched and smiled as she learned to giggle and laugh, walk and talk, and feed herself with exact precision. And now that she's almost five... I hug and kiss her when she cries and also when she pretends to weep with eyes that are dry, even though she pleads tediously for tears that will not drop in for a visit. I whisper bedtime stories and listen with smiles while she recites the same folklore in angelic tones that whisper of magical places on far away shores. I give her medication when she's sick and placebos when she simulates various aches for purposes of hindering sleep and dreams from seizing a piece of our weekend that passes too soon it seems. I plaster bandaids on impossible-to-see- with-the-naked-eye scratches and wounds that magically appear out of thin air and disappear at her convenience after she is lavished with plenty of sympathy and melodramatic expressions of kindness and love that cause smiles to titter forth from both of us. All these thoughts linger in my mind as I study this lovely picture created by this little angel's genius. I describe the beauty of her drawing and exclaim how proud her grandmother will be to exhibit this work of art. And as I turn to leave, after our mutual goodbye hugs and spoken "I love you," Angel takes my hand, kisses it, and says in the voice of a "real" angel, "Mamaw, don't forget your picture." Oh boy, there is nothing like having a child run to you with something he/she has created. You are so blessed and sounds like you have been a blessing also! I loved reading this Kathleen--(Kay) |

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You and Angel, sweet friend, your love for your sweet godchild shines in these heavenly words, just as her innocence and love shines for you, not only through her gorgeous drawings, but in the love of her gorgeous heart! (sigh) May she continue to grow and share so many priceless memories with you and forever be the angel of your life! (kiss on cheek) This is sooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Humblebee, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |
