It’s Not My Responsibility!
By Larry Chadwick

About this thing called happiness,
For lack of which you blame me.
There is something you should know,
It is not my responsibility.

It doesn’t come from others,
As you seem to insist.
Rather it comes from inside,
Unless you choose to resist.

It’s not about the things we have,
Or what we manage to accumulate.
Nor is it because of who you know,
No matter the friendships that you formulate.

It’s rather like humility,
Elusive as it can be.
When it is your focus,
It surely seems to flee.

So don’t be so eager to focus on yourself,
Or the things you won’t believe.
Be of service to all around,
And wait to see what you achieve.

(Tale from an old relationship)

(sigh) So beautifully said, dearest Larry, true happiness comes from within and not expected of others, but if we love ourselves and share our love to the world, we will all find true happiness! (big hugggsssss) Soooooo beautiful, sweet friend, it is always our own responsibility! We all love you so much, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

*grin* That is why I try to only write fantasy......that way, for me anyway....it prevents me from spending time feeling sorry for myself...I have learned from experience that smiles beget smiles. **big hugs** **of course** I have to write sad sometimes too but try not to dwell on it.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I couldn't agree more!  I love the line "Be of service to all around,
And wait to see what you achieve."
Reminds me of a song line I once knew, where the singer wished he could "hit some people into feeling good!"  Bad things happen to us all, but some people feel this gives them the right to use it as a crutch for the rest of their lives.  Others recognize that we can't change the bad things that happen to us, only the way we deal with it.
Good post.

it's a power you choose to give away, but it is one, you can take back.....as soon as you depend on another for your happiness, it's almost guaranteed you will only be unhappy. I like this very much

Such wisdom and truth in this one, mon ami!

Noah,
It is really so. Thanks.

Irish Rose,
Wow! Thanks for that.

Cindi,
And that is why you are really happy...I know.

Karen,
Relax. All of us have happiness interrupted from time to time. Besides, we like even your sad poems.

Nancy Lee,
And it is nice not to be with someone who pins responsibility for it on me! Thanks.

Hey Mac,
Welcome to passions. See, you could write this one. Love "hit some people into feeling good" line. LOL

Victoria,
Perfection isn't a bad thing but it is impossible to live with. LOL Thanks.

Floria,
Thanks. So true.

SmartChick,
I sure like having you around. Thanks.

SEA,
Absolutely! Thanks for your insights and support...not to mention your poetry.

Kacy,
Sounds like you had the start of another poem there. LOL Aren't you suppposed to be homeschooling?

Tennessee Angel,

LOL at you, Larry. It's too late to study. We are only a little bit behind, and Sara is such a fast reader that she can do a month's worth in two days when she must...especially if I threaten her with "School reports not done?....no computer surfing time, unless and until..."
But who is chasing me around and holding me accountable? LOL. It's all under control. After all, it is my responsibility.

Larry - it's certainly not your responsibility, as some do think. Liked this very much.

Reminds me of a past relationship where a woman was always telling me I was the cause of all her problems...so I finally told her if she wasn't happy with me go and find the one that would make her happy...
happiness seems to go along with the belief that one is within the right relationship...or where they belong...
I have found myself to be much happier if I feel like I am with the right person or feel comfortable with my situation and circumstance...James

Yeah, I never bought that. Thanks.

Responsibility implies acceptability of one's capability, which in all probability is a sign of nobility....

Larry
You are right - happiness does come fron within, but just like a relationship, it takes two people working together.  If one of the partners is unhappy or has a roving eye, Bingo!.  Your words are overflowing with meaning.

Larry darling boy this has to be one of your best. It's utterly wonderful, and so very very true. Everyone is responsible for their own happiness. You can pass it on, you can pass on a smile but you aren't responisble for anyone's happiness but your own.

Absolutely wonderful writing as always

A beautifully written poem which is pregnant with meaning.

Alison,
Thanks.

'deer,
I do believe you meant irresponsible.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
