Four bedrooms, three baths, this house is for sale
custom designed to the smallest detail
and loving thoughts driven in with each nail

and the time and trouble it took to pick
the very finest of fireplace brick

in the walls are the echoes of laughter and tears
of the family who lived here for all of these years

in moments of quiet, you can still hear the noise
made by the tussling of two little boys
as they argued and fought over their toys

you can still see the dad, watching the game
from the sofa, he cheered for his favorite team
and the mom in the kitchen, mixing and chopping
coffee pot perking and toaster`a`popping

outside in the woods, wildlife abounds
birds in the trees
chipmunks on the ground

sometimes there'd be a family of deer
you could tell by their tracks in the snow...
they'd been here

but there's too much space now
with the children all grown
and living in places
all of their own

so this beautiful home
designed with such care
and lived in so well
is showing some wear

and looking for love
from somebody new
to replace the family
within it, which grew

You have captured the essence of this home, and it's wonderful memories perfectly Madame Chipmunk!  Excellent visuals throughout ... you gave me a little longing in my own heart for "my" old place in the country. I still miss the memories it contained .... very much enjoyed!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Wonderful poem.  I have the misfortune of knowing that the house of my childhood memories was lost to fire.  But I feel I am still blessed by the memories.  Thank you for reviving my past.  Happy New Year Roger

I'm actually looking for a house to buy, but if yours isn't near the ocean, forget it. LOL   I really liked this a lot.

And the character of the house never goes
away...just walk in and listen to the laughter.

This is a beautiful poem Madame C.

Bill, Michael and Floria...
I am glad that the poem interested you in buying the house...
Maybe I should start a real estate poetry business.
Unfortunately, you guys missed the boat because I sold it a year ago and have been living in a condo since then.

Michael...its not near the ocean, but its only half an hour from Lake Michigan, which is even better......We have better pizza here......You can ask Dave (GenXer) about that.

Karen, Nancy, Magness and Martin...
It looks like you read right into the very essence of this poem.
It was about the home where my children grew up.
My first husband and I designed it ourselves and put so very much of "us" into it....
Unfortunately, my first husband died...almost 3 yrs ago, and then...a little more than a yr later, my older son died.
So that house is full of so many memories...both good and bad...but it was too big and too expensive for me to maintain by myself...and it was also too empty.
So, I bought a condo...and a week after I bought it, I met the man who is now my husband.
Fortunately, I sold the house to a couple who absolutely adore it...They did a lot of remodeling and gave us a tour.  I thought it would hurt, but I really enjoyed it because I am so happy that they are loving it so much and that they didn't cut down my beloved woods.

Thanks for the reply, Dave...we ate a lot of Michigan pizza in that lovely house.

Joanna...thanks, you probably would really have liked that house.  Although it was located in the middle of a small city, and had neighbors on both sides, it was located deep in the woods and was very private...we didn't have anything on our windows except in the bedrooms...because no one could see in anyway because of the woods.

Thanks Victoria,  I am glad it struck home with you because it was HOME to me for 25 years.

(smiles) Oooooooohhhh...this sounds just like where I want to live when I grow up, and the most beautiful part of a house is family and love families share, which I dream of sharing! (kiss on cheek) Soooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, I want nature in my backyard too! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I'm a firm believer that houses absorb the personalities of those who inhabit them....and every inhabitant will feel the love and joy you had created and shared while living there..ok, I'm wierd....but I really love this poem

Lyra darling girl this is utterly wonderful as always your writing bubbles with joy. When you write happy you simply burst with the delight of it all.

What can I say darling girl this is truly fabulous. I love it. And can I have the house please. Although it'll be too big for just me, I'll have to bring my girls.
