Tall Glass Of Regret

For in her hand is what's supposed to be a one time thing
A final attempt to distract the image of herself she hates to see
Good-byes to the fullest, one by one and sip by sip
Her little something to replace what she just can't be...

Her tall glass of regret filled with her inability to leave an impression at all
Comes fully paid for the many things she's done wrong
It's her launch into reality that she still doesn't want to see
But, here's to her sorrow for the hour that she must move on...

She took a sip to the memory of someone else's joy
Though every night she'd do it when she climbed into bed
Sometimes when there she'd forget love wasn't meant for her
And, she'd cross that line of comfort there in her head...

That drink she holds is the extreme way she could try and forget
But, it's so hard to fight that need to wave once more
So, maybe her tall glass of regret will remind her where she remains
And, that sound of letting go will be heard for sure...

She knows how a thought can take one back a long way
And, though the nights they will never be the same again
Her tall glass of regret warns the stars a change is near
For, they'll hear her cry her very last cry for him...

For what she isn't, can't ever be, couldn't compare and never was
Is why she clings to that tall glass of regret she has ahold of
She'll bow out gracefully but not because it's what she prefers
Just that's how she wants him to remember her...

*sigh*
Your writing is much like someone else I read. I love the honesty and ways with words in this.

I am many.

Saunni, this poem went right through me, I've done this so many times I've nearly disappeared.....

Powerful indeed, there's a lot here, let's hope that the glass is one that can be drank without much suffering.

Thank you.
