There’s a sense of loss upon me.
Maybe you could call it dread.
There’s an element that’s missing,
Leaving pain and loss instead...

There’s no longer expectation-
Nor the hope of future bliss,
I have never faced a sadder time,
In my whole life than this.

I would like to throw my saddle,
On a line-back dun and ride-
Running from the past which haunts me,
And mistakes I’ve made from pride.

Maybe someone’s waiting for me-
But that someone may be Death.
But I’ll ride and I will seek you,
Till I draw my final breath.

Are you waiting on the Llano?
Or down in San Antone?
Do you walk the hills at sunset,
Waiting for me all alone?

Won’t you watch the tree strewn ridges?
At the ending of the day-
For the rider on the buckskin...
Who will take you far away?

Ride...ride, my friend
and let me journey too
To sit by fireside
and listen to tales
under starlight glow
