Sacrificial Lamb

Though I've never been to war
I've seen enough to know
My Son I've just one thing to say
Heed my call, please don't go!

No one doubts your courage
Or resolve to do what's right
It's just that we love you so
And war is such a hopeless plight

Battles fought too far away
As the demons take their stand
A picture seen too many times
Loved ones blood upon the sand

A slaughterhouse for fine young men
That follow on life's great cam
Marching on by, one by one
Just another sacrificial lamb

From another Mother who has not felt this fear, but many of smaller fears that manifested themselves to mountains from molehills.  I can't imagine the anguish of a parent feeling this fear and pain.  You have said this well.

A father's loving wish, much the same as a mother's. My heart aches for all the lost lives, war after war, year after year. And for what?
PS, did I tell you one of your poem titles is encorporated in my Plagiarism poem? Oh, if only the Power of a Poet's Pen could indeed be mightier than any sword, perhaps all the weapons could be put aside?

(big hugggsssssss) Sooooooo powerfully touching, sweet friend, though I have never been a parent, I believe when I grow up I would hope and pray that if I had a son he would never go out to war! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is a powerfully heartwrenching poem! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

I'm just pondering here, in light of some of the events throughout the world. Though my angels are staying close to home, well I hope so at least for the near future   , I've been touched by those close by who've been asked to answer the call. It is a terrible fear that grips a parent, I thank you all for your understanding, take care!

A timely piece that many will relate to and all will understand, some having been touched by this on a more personal level.

EagleOne... Even though I'm not a parent, war still scares me. I have so many loved ones that I couldn't bear to lose. Even the thought of it is almost enough to make me cry. Very moving piece.
