There in the mirror
two peas in the snow

Singing bright eyed songs
and making my daughter laugh
as If I’d lost my mind

It’s a good day
I’m alive
savoring coffee
that she made
thick as syrup
with sugar on top

quiet hugs and morning chatter
in the clatter of dishes

I’ve been laid up
for two days
and look as if I bought death

everyone is happy
that I crawled out cheated

When I look into my daughter’s face
I bask in the sun

She tarried by my side
as I felt the wicked step-mother
so cruel as to not be able
to fix her favorite snack

She brought Me Oreos and milk
I accepted her offering
and pooled up in her care

It occurred to me

she’ll never need any slippers
nor a gown spun by magic
she doesn’t even need a prince

she dances on my heart
and pirouettes in my soul
all by her barefooted self

We need a new Cinderella
the other one is outdated

This is priceless.  I hope that she is of an age that you have shared this with her, and my prayer for her is that all she do for the rest of her life is magnify the goodness of herself that you have shown us here...

a delight!

I agree, the other one is outdated.  Here's to a very special mother/daughter relationship.   Tender and sweet, my friend, enjoyed much. *hugs*

Oh, now, dear Poetess, this wonderful piece of art has made my morning complete. Memories of my now grown daughter, pint sized and pixie faced - thankyou. Chris

Regina you just melted my heart to mush this morning with this tender piece about your daughter.  I think we have found a new cinderella in her that is for sure.  Be well and make sure you save this one for her, as it is truly a treasure.

made me think of my recent visit with my sister - she is a still quite young now... and I had similar thoughts for her... unsure if it was a pleasant thing or a mournful thing, but definitely a change to be embraced...

Well written... Hope your feeling better.

This is so precious Regina. She sounds like a little doll. How lucky you are to have her, and how lucky she is to have such a wonderful mom as you. Funny, I never knew you had a daughter until I read this. Glad to hear you’re feeling better now.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Regina,
I just wanted to say hi.  This is a beautiful poem and tribute to your daughter, and it helps to remind me that there is a reason to the madness even if sometimes its hard to see.  When my little girl smiles its like the whole gray of the world lifts.  And now I have another little prince or princess getting ready to make an entrance, and I'm not sure if you remember, but thats partly owed to you and your daughter's story.  SO, thanks again.
