Into The Valley Below |

I cannot come to you, I am bound to lie here. I cannot feel your love, see your salted tear. I wish that I could simply rise to you and say but death has come, taken my voice this day. I lie in an open field, a field of clover green. I lie twisted and covered in blood’s red sheen. My life stopped as a bullet tore apart my heart My mind fuzzy, became dark as death did start. The sound of the bugle’s tune fades far away The roar of the cannon mouth, left yesterday. Black-winged birds soar high, black coal eye. Smelling the stench of death as onward they fly. I keep your lock of hair within my clenched hand. I feel the softness of it, see your eyes as you stand. I hear the faint call from within the lights above. I walk to the light, forever bathed in your love. Into the crimson valley below I charge gallantly Into the hail of lead flying I ride and die for thee. The meadow green shall absorb my rotting shell as soaring black coal eye birds shall dine well |

A beautifully written, poetic tale of love and old fashioned gallantry... Very sad,Barry but I really liked it! copyright2002 Lyra Nesius "poetry is life distilled" Gwendolyn Brooks [This message has been edited by Madame Chipmunk (01-27-2002 05:38 PM).] |
