The Chain The instinct almost extinct survival first with bloody thirst as its hunger brinked The shrill the thrill its majestic stance a victory dance before the kill The look it took as death drew near seems to since the fear its head shook The prey a stray a quick hop and a skip like the crack of a whip can't run away The lost the cost To play the game always ending the same the double crossed The rules the tools tall grass found now safe and sound from lifes vicious duels The survival until arrival of a deadlier foe New prey must face its woe a new rival The game the same but with a new way to play The predator the prey nature the blame The passing everlasting complete an total extinction channeled by chained instinction the wasted lives massing The pain the strain the cycle continues someone to loose ... the life of the chain [This message has been edited by ctowen (edited 11-22-2001).] |

Such is the way of the world, the weak the strong, but nature has balance, man unfortunatly has none. Interesting write I enjoyed. Regards, Olias. |

*sigh* you know that is why I stay within my fantasies...trust is not something I give easily and the games that are played scare me away. Not knowing if someone is who they really are is a fear I have learned to have a lot of. Especially now on the internet...I do not go to chat rooms and am even worried sometimes with the poets whose work I have grown to love. I guess reality is that this is a screen and words are just words. It why I hide my heart within my words and am afraid to venture forth among those whose words I come to love. **hugs** You really got me thinking on this one, Craig. A very powerful write. Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

A powerful poem about predators...Such is part of nature...Unfortunately... like Karen pointed out...they exist in our world as well... |

WOW!! I felt the ominous force in this. There is such a dark side to this world and you depicted it well. Merci! |

As usual, you have some powerful imagery and deep thoughts in this poem. It is a very vivid look at the chain of predator-prey-predator-prey, a part of the cycle of life that is played out each day. I like to think that as sentient humans, we will some day extricate ourselves from this continuum, but it looks as if the pendulum keeps swinging the other way. Many things to think about here, Craig. I enjoyed this, even though it has a dark feel. |

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. This does have its darkside but I felt it was a good time for it. It does show the various strengths of both predator and prey and how life sustains itself. It is sad that man is a part of such a brutal cycle but we are and, to many, prey upon those who are not weaker but more human. Sandra I hope this helps. Olias, I believe man does if he really wants it. Karen fantasies are not a bad place but sometimes we need to come out for air *s Magnus, yes, but where there is predator there is always a prey. Amusemi ... may the force be with you. Kacy, we duck the pendulum at every opportunity, occassionally a few get knocked off but those who remain never give up. It seems that half of those left are predators leaving the other half to be their prey. Indeed sad. And , yes, it is Craig and not Chris ... Thank you. **s |
