I was working as a bouncer, in a rundown cowboy bar, Trying to make a buck or two, for downpayment on a car, The drinks were slightly watered down, the juke box out of date, One o'clock had come and gone, t'was getting kind of late, When in the door, there walked a man, at least it walked upright, Six foot four, two-eighty-five, a frightful hairy sight, From out the beard and scraggly hair, came a fearsome roar, Where the heck is Sally Anne, that worthless two-bit... swore The hulking menance, fierce scowl upon his face, As his eyes in piercing glare, surveyed the darkened place, With a bit of trepidation, I walked towards the giant, Whispering in silent prayer, I hope that he's compliant, If you would sir, be so nice, to kindly leave the bar, I must have crossed against the light, I didn't see the car, That smashed into my once proud face, and threw me cross the floor, As I was flying here to there, I realized he was sore, I landed on the juke box, my elbow hit A-six, I must admit I had a thought, I might be in a fix, Through a haze of pain and blood, I spied a mountain coming, How I wished my legs would work, so I could leave a running, No such luck, I closed my eyes, to pray my final prayer, I prayed to God to help me get, my tail end out of there, The giant stood, arms cocked and ready, to tear my limbs apart, When from the juke box, A-six played, Hank's, Your Cheating Heart, Throughout the bar, "The time will come, when you'll see blue, Your cheating heart will tell on you." I thought at least, a classic song, my dirge for when I die, But no pain, I looked above, to see the giant cry, In a sobbing voice he said, It's time for me to leave, That song, it lances in my heart, it always makes me grieve, He said, I'm sorry, in voice contrite, Went out the door, and disappeared, out into the night, I always knew I liked that song, as watered beer I drank, I quit that job that very night, farewell, and thanks to Hank. Tim--Sometimes you just don't know what will save you. Enjoyed this, and caught a deeper message in the tale. That's what poetry's for, right? |

OUCH! Never did see that car or that mountain, huh? LOL, though, at the way you expressed this 'event' with a twist of humor. A-6 will always be your tune, Tim. Thanks for the chuckle. And whenever I hear that tune I'll think of you now. |
