Hi, Honey! Here I am again
At home on New Year's Eve.
The way the year has flown is too
Amazing to believe!
It seems like only yesterday
That I was next to you
Celebrating New Year's Day
They way we used to do.

Oh, listen to me! That's not true....
Was not that way at all.
It's funny how the mind plays tricks
On things that we recall.
The fact is I was not much fun..
I realize that now.
You said you loved the way I was
But I still don't know how.

I've always been a plodder..
Got that from my dad, I guess.
I never had the fire to climb
The ladder of success.
I'm pretty much a low-key guy
That you well know of me
Who likes to live a quiet life
Around a family.

Oh, honey, you deserved much more
Than I could ever give.
I tried my best to be the man
With whom you'd want to live
But I'm sure I had limitations...
I'm a simple guy
Who always lived in fear
That one day you would say goodbye.

Girl, you were perfect...always had
The patience of a saint..
You cared for me and our two boys
With never a complaint.
You were the perfect mother and
To me, the perfect wife.
You always made me feel that
You had a happy life.

I hoped that it would last. I tried
My best to make it so
But, as the sun must rise, so came
The day for you to go.
I won't pretend that there's no pain
But I want you to find
The best life has to offer you
To bring you peace of mind.

I like to think you may return
One day and if you do
I promise I will do my best
To love and honor you...
And, if you don't, I will go on
Although it will be sad
But I'll thank God for giving me
Whatever time we had.

I'll raise the boys with you in mind
They'll always love you, too.
I'll see you in their smiling eyes
And everything they do.
I'll make sure that they study hard
And mind their manners, too
And every night before they sleep
I'll have them pray for you.

You want to hear a funny thing?
I had a dream last week
That seemed so realistic that
I woke up feeling weak.
It doesn't happen often and
It took me by surprise
So much so when I woke at morn
I felt tears in my eyes.

I dreamed you wrote a letter
Saying you were coming back.
You said the things you had with me
Were what you really lacked.
You said you missed the quiet times
And sweet tranquility...
You said you missed our little boys...
And that you still loved me.

It seemed so realistic
I could almost hear you speak
And checked the mail every day
For over one full week
But it had been a dream, no more
Like others that I've had
A silly little fantasy
That left me feeling sad.

I see the hand approaching twelve
The time is almost here
For folks to raise their glasses high
And welcome in the year.
I hope you're at a party where
Tuxedoed waiters serve
And you are blessed to have
The kind of life that you deserve.

I'll put this letter with the others
Some day you will know
The feelings deep within my heart
And how I love you so.
I'll kiss you when the clock strikes twelve
Within my memory
And, hopefully, at midnight hour
You'll give a thought to me.

Oh Balladeer!
This is getting sooo good!
You know she wrote one to you too...
and really wants you back,
but is just a little afraid of how you will respond!!
Now mail those letters!
Gee, I do tend to get carried away at times...
*Happy New Year to you and yours*

Balladeer,  I feel sorry for your poor wife because she walked out on a wonderful, sensitive guy like you.
Not many women can say that the man they love, loves them back as much as you obviously love her......and, even fewer women can say that they trust their husband's to take care of their kids like that either.
Your letter tears my heart to shreds.
You did a beautiful job, writing it.
Now, I am waiting for you and Kit to keep this up all year long and then we can have our own little soap opera, here at Passions.

'Deer dear heart, one day you'll write a poem that I'll read and it won't affect me. I shall be totally unmoved. There'll be no tears or laughter. I shall just turn the page and move on.....

One day maybe, probably when pigs fly, the sky turns green and the ocean doesn't meet the shore.

Is this good? Noooo it's not good...... it's utterly UTTERLY wonderful. I've not been in here much the last few days, so I obviously missed the first one of these, but I'll go and hunt for it now.

Absolutely Fantastic

You do know I love this don't you? Good I do it's outstanding

Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

I saw this sequel and thought - yipee, she's coming home! Now I have to go get the kleenix again and probably wait until next year to hear what she has to say.  Oh well, that is in about 2-1/2 hours so I can wait I guess.  Seriously Michael you rhyme like this is your manner of speaking - did you know that LOL Guess you did right?  Love this, and no rush now - everyone can take their time getting back together - otherwise like a day soap, we are going to loose the other character no offense but we luvs ya both yanno.  Wunderbar! and Happy New Year!

I am, of course, hooked by this magnificent story you and Kit are weaving for us... and very appreciative of the talents that seem to create such excellence so effortlessly. *S* This is wonderful, Deer One.

But it's also close to home... you've put my daily prayer into poetic form. *S*

I like to think you may return
One day and if you do
I promise I will do my best
To love and honor you...
And, if you don't, I will go on
Although it will be sad
But I'll thank God for giving me
Whatever time we had.
