The Piano from #3 The piano beckons like an old lover. With me, with me you were once enamored. My keys played your passion. Your fingers were my power. Remember when I was your master and you were my bright and shining star? You were only seven but your listening knew my value. The piano teacher with halitosis wilted your desire for lessons, you studied improvisation. I was your instructor. I took you to far-off places where you dreamed of quiet sweetness or the tumultuous falls of some neatherland. Your mother played a mean boogie. I was the bonding of you and she, two together on that bench, not the couch where Walter Cronkite was the captain or the massive table forking peas and strained conversation. You played your secret love on me My music filled the silence in you. Now words fill you up, enrapture you with their poetry. I am dusty and old, my strings are stretched, four keys have sunk onto themselves, you forget to polish me. I am the keeper of family photographs. With me, with me you were once enamored. My keys played your passion. Your fingers were my power. Play me again for old times sake. |

This is absolutely lovely, Martie. We can all gain so much from music. More than we ever thought. This one left me with a smile. Thank you. All writing comes |

if pianos or guitars could talk....I'm sure this is what they would say, though not as beautifully as you do. You tickle my ivories, Martie |

...and I shall sit in shadows watch the light play and fall on you as improvisation is your friend today I shall wait for your tomorrows when the pen brings back the haunting melodies, and I shall bring the tea and cookies... |

I love the way you wrote about playing the piano. The passion that comes out from every key hit. "With me, with me you were once enamored. My keys played your passion. Your fingers were my power." It reminds me of myself when I played almost every other day. It was a stress reliever, and when I play a piece that I love, I would close my eyes and imagine. The story behind this piece of music, and the story I think it is telling. Lovely! "I took you to far-off places where you dreamed of quiet sweetness or the tumultuous falls of some neatherland." |
