The Christmas Shopper I sped like a rabbit to be first at the door To the “pre Christmas sale” I had been waiting for With fifty percent off each item you buy There were visions of savings engraved in my eye I would buy toys for Christmas and save them a year What a clever and wonderful thought to appear So I shopped with the sharpness of eagle-clear eye But the tags left me breathless, so shamefully high! The regular price that I’ve seen through the years Would higher than Walmart and lower than Sears But with fifty percent and then adding the tax The sale price was more than the same thing at Sax So I said to the clerk, there’s deception about She said hurry on through and I’ll check you right out I said wait, this is not what it said in the ad I’m not falling for gimmicks, I’ll never be had Then I noticed a tag that flipped over and read “After Christmas Sale, half off the price” scratched in red All of the tags on reverse side pre-marked And a sputter of laughter leaped into my heart I said clerk I’ve discovered these markdowns in red So I’ll go with the “After Christmas” instead She said you cannot buy the “Afters” before It’s by “Pre’s “ not by “Posts” the computer keeps score I complained to the manager, I don’t like fights But as a consumer I have certain rights So he circled the “After” in a marker of peach Andhe wrote “non-refundable” boldly on each I smirked to the clerk as I made my way through Not too overbearing, enough that she knew I was taking them over and perfectly glad For I don’t fall for gimmicks, I’ll never be had As I walked out the door, glancing back at them both A reciprocal glance in a snickering gloat As though they were victors in brave dauntless duels And I thought to myself, “What ingenuous fools” Then I went on to Walmart, they might have some buys With pre Christmas sale prices etched in my eyes I glanced at the same things I packed in my trunk And I realized I’m stupider than I had thunk My mind flashing back to the two filled with laughter For even the "Pre’s" marked down half for the “After” Were more than the less that I would have paid here And my visa card maxed from the toys for next year Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (12-19-2001 08:34 AM).] |

(sigh) Yep, they'll do whatever they can to try and haggle consumers sometimes; I don't shop too often and try too to avoid these situations! (sigh) Such a wonderfully emotional poem about the troubles of Christmas shopping, I feel many can relate to this! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for shairng! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Well you've started the Christmas Chuckles, as well as the Credit Card Blues....and of course, there's always Buyer's Remorse.... Shall I wrap them for you in silver and blue? |

How true is this? Canada just got Walmart and OH, am I a Walmart kind of gal for the kids! Ask those that know me, I was born to shop and they have to get up darn early to pull one on me! Good advise dear lady, and the best is - STAND FIRM - take them on and you always will get the lowest price, hey, maybe I will hold school in the forums on how to shop LOL, just a thought! Oh Liz, you are too clever, this really gave me a chuckle this morning! ~*~ The Very Best Of The Season To You And Yours ~*~ |

Liz - This is great - I absolutely see myself here... and Mysteria is right - It is worth a second round... Though I did do as you asked... |
